WV on wed: Packed Fake all over. no ice.. partly sunny. about 10 at the top with wind gusting to about 20 at times.. cold but tolerable. the comp bump course was still in and open to the public on tyler too :P of course , no one was skiing it  ... it got very challenging though after 12 as it started to hardpack and rut out. ... they were blowing hard everywhere. no crowds at all.
K on thurs: saw a liveshot of the weather channel live from K on wed morning heading out the door to WV.. donna weinbrecht was being intervieved live from the hill to celebrate day one of winter. that plus dan dipiro's info of a possible comp course on skylark left over from the weekend and a wed evening shot again from K had us roll the dice and make the brutal drive over on thurs morning. that plus the ridiculous refusal of Loon to put in any bumps at all    had us leaving lincoln and 5:45 and pulled into K by 830 :P .. oh man , did we make the right call. Mighty K had the goods.... probably 70% open with not a spec of ice / hardpack anywhere...that's the groomer report....but we were there for obviously different reason... set up out of bear and headed for skylark for the recon. the comp course was still in but it was in tough shape...on the way to skylark we spotted what turned out to be the mother load... needles eye lift ,,bumped up top to bottom with powder bumps and NO ice. a good 1000 ft of medium pitched bumps off the HS needles eye gave up about 35 laps   for the day  . temps were dramatically different on bear and needles eye side than the k1 and superstar side... even if the comp course was in good shape on the superstar side, it would have been tough as the wind was nuts over there... but wind off of needles and bear was nothing.. temps about 25 and blue sky... no lines to speak of. epic day :P didn't see any of the local mogul posse out but did see our buddy upper ny state joe killin in on the eye ... absolutely exhausted , we said goodbye to one of the best december days in memory and snow for about 10 days for the CHRISTMAS WEEK . observations: K has the superpipe open ( holy moses is that thing scary.. it's gotta have 16 ft walls at least. the dedicated rope tow for it is spinning ( why everyone, especially loon does not do what they have to do to get something like that in is just a mystery   ) they were blowing snow on an amazing number of trails including O.L of bear. O.l was open ( not bumped but soon will be if they let it ) wildfire has killer bumps on the top part. we didn't ski it much as the needles Q was a lot faster and got more quicker. K is pretty much up and running for sure. they showed why they are pretty much the king. anyone going to K this week would be wise to work out of bear. back on jan 2 and 3 hopefully

Fog and rain at WV today, but the snow was good. The Tyler bump course is still there, Joegm. I hear it'll be mowed after this weekend and replaced with a full length course with two airs. This is in prep for the upcoming mogul contest, I think, Jan 7 or 8(?)

Today, after the morning fog lifted, you could see what you were doing. Of course, you had to ski in the rain, but the bumps were hero bumps. FUN. The bump skiers were also training on some rollers the groomers made for them last night on Tyler, just below the course.

my friends and i really appreciate you putting that infomation up. You have no idea how valuble that is in an industry that is at best ambivalent and at worst outright hostile towards recreational, non competitive, non team member, older than 16 years old , regular guy bump skiers. fortuately WV seems to be making a decent effort. we will have to wait and see if they close off the course to the public and us regular shmucks. thanks again

HD Haller,
Thanks for the update at WV. My next day on snow will be Wednesday. Anyone else out there got any updates on some bump runs. 8)

Joe and jsul185,

My pleasure. I believe the old Tyler bumps are now history and a new, full-length mogul course is being machine made today or tonight. I'm guessing the new bumps, but not the airs, will be open to the public midweek. But that's just a guess.
