first turns of the season, wooo!!! i matched my earliest opening day with last year's november 30 at cannon. sadly, cannon has delayed their opening day one week, so i opted for the cheapest lift ticket i could find with waterville weighing in at $25.

upon parking my car, i started jumping up and down next to my car in anticipation. it was a child like giddiness.

there was a snowboard park next to the lodge, i didn't check it out. i uploaded on the quad and found the high country double running SLOWLY with one trail open underneath. this lift officially gets my nod for the slowest chair lift in new england. TWICE as slow as the burke quad, not the slightest bit of an exageration. with the lines early in the day, one racer decided it would be quicker simply to hike back up! it was!

the trail under the high country double was scraped up pretty good at 8:30AM. skiers left edge has the goods though with the pushed over snow. they were still making snow and grooming tippiecanoe, so all traffic was directed to the high country. joegm, you would not have been happy with the racers practicing carving!!! actually, considering only one trail was open to the public, even i was slightly annoyed.

after two runs, the lift wait plus ride was up to around 15-20 minutes, i took a break. waited for them to drop the rope on tippiecanoe and was not disappointed. decent man made groomed, with pockets or sweet stuff on the sides. this trail was jam packed with skiers, most going too fast and out of control, so again i took a break. came back later to find nice soft pushed around snow on tippiecanoe, making some soft mini-bumps.

they were blowing on the two trails next to tippie... so it looks like they should be going top to bottom sometime this week. high country was looking really ugly by my last run around noon while tippie was in top shape!

not bad for a first day out. lets see those temps fall now!!!!!!
