Executive Summary:
Great spring skiing, sugaring, and outdoor recreation weather in general
through Saturday morning. Temperatures will be in the 40's and 50's at
ski area base elevations during the day, increasing a few degrees each day
this week, with teens and 20's at night; some large daily temp swings will
occur (30-40F swings likely in mountain valleys). Snowmelt will be very
gradual in the higher elevations with quick freeze-up as the sun goes down
each night. Weather will be near clear and calm with a lot of sun through
Friday afternoon. Friday night, clouds will increase and the corn cycle
will be broken. Freeze up might not occur on Friday night. Occasional
rain showers are likely on Saturday but not a complete washout. Sunday
could go either way between showers and sun. Next week, corn harvest
again with sub-freezing nights and seasonably mild days.

Discussion:
High pressure in control through Friday with some large daily temperature
swings. Mtn valley locations will see some huge changes between 6am and
4pm temperatures as places like Saranac Lake could be at 15F in the
morning but 50-55F in the afternoon. Winds will be calm at night with
afternoon breezes developing due to localized temperature differences such
as around Lake Champlain and snowcovered mountains. Overall, it will be
exceptionally nice outside this week. Great weather for afternoon runs,
biking, skiing, yardwork, whatever. Spring fever.

Low pressure will approach on Friday night from the Ohio Valley and track
into southern Quebec. North country will be in the warm sector so some
60F readings are possible, mainly in north-south valleys like the
Champlain and Hudson River valleys. South winds will increase and rain
showers are likely. This looks like a light to moderate rainfall of .25"-
.75"...on par with a 4-8" snowfall. Overall, it could be more on the
light side for 90% of Saturday with occasional light rain or drizzle with
the bulk of the rainfall associated with a cold front Saturday evening.
For skiing purposes, it might not actually rain that much during lift
operation hours; I'll update that later in the week. Low pressure
continues slow but steady off to the northeast and Sunday looks mostly
precip free with cooler air moving in. Right now I'm thinking some left
over scattered rain showers, mixing with wet snow in the highest
elevations and then some afternoon clearing for Sunday.

NAO stays negative to some degree and seasonable conditions look in the
cards next week with more 45-55 during the day and 20-30 at night.
