What will $1 per gallon gas do to the ski industry?

Nothing bad!!! Merrill Lynch oil analyst said today the if China goes into recession, which is likely, then oil will hit $25 per barrel and gas could hit $1. I hope that happens, because then I can fill up my Suburban for a mere $40. :D

We're inching closer here, where it's down to as low as ~$1.55. During the summer it was costing me ~$90 to fill my truck with 85 octane. Now I'm filling it with 91 octane for ~$36.

Do not wish for $1/gallon gas.

Another jobs report or two like todays, and we will be there.

It appears that oil/energy prices should have the biggest countercyclical effect on the economy this year.

Of course you are right. The way I presented it the cause>effect is backwards. But still to get there...lots o pain.

Let's be clear. A bad economy could mean $1/gallon gas. $1/gallon gas does not cause a bad economy.

I'll therefore keep wishing, thank you.

We should use this time of cheap oil to switch become more fuel efficient. If we wait too long and gas goes way up again, and it will, we will have lost a golden opportunity and be right back where we were 5 months ago.

And what year are we talking about? 2008 or 2008?

The turn-around is stunning.

I love cheaper gas for my crappy SUV (old & small as it may be).

But we need change. But friends in this industy cannot accomodate a 70% drop in oil.

My view on oil:
The hedge funds were throwing too much money at 3rd world commodity stocks. But now they are getting rid of their debt that they used to buy up oil. Lower prices are in order.

Obvious short.

And my business school class is full of South American Chilean/Brazilean/etc commodity millionaires. (These kids were not the best in the crop. They just existed in the global economy.)

Yet i have seen some good cases for $50-70 per barrel oil.

But if we get below $40. That's not good. It's a global depression. 1930s with the Internet.

friggin-a-right rob! gas goes up, people buy less so price goes down, people buy more cuz prices are low prices go back up. pure and simple, people are stupid and over consume, live at or above their means and everyone suffers. i ride my bike to work almost every day 28 miles roundtrip all year long on the nh seacoast and i hardly see anyone else doing it and it saddens me. our roads are good and car drivers are very friendly. people are so lazy. i have a wicked cold right now and i still rode today with temps in the 20's. come on people ride a bike.

$4, even for a few months, was creating a total shift in the way we think. In my mind that's a great thing - start to pay something that approaches the true cost of burning all that crap.

In 1986 I found a great company and a job I loved. I bought a house nearby and have been walking to work for 22 years. Although I'm sure Ice is in better shape than I am...I like walking home for lunch, which I've also done for all that time.

Cheap gas will be gone soon enough.

I just bought a 1991 Honda Civic with only 57,000 miles, no rust, gets mid-30s MPG highway. Amazing how small it is, even compared to other "compact" cars... no joke, the top of the car doesn't even come up to the bottom of the windows on those tank-like SUVs. I always crack up when I see housewives driving those monsters to the mall.

Who da man? ME!

Aaah yes the monsters, in our neck of the woods people have to have them cause they can't fit their monster hockey bags in anything else  Enjoy the gas , won't last long . I should be out skiing instead of sitting but spoiled after a few powder days . Bulletproof snow outside , but there is hope this week for more snow.
