Where can I post a couple of skiing movie files?

I made a couple of ski movies last week with my movie maker program. They're not anything special but I like 'em. It's mostly a slideshow to music but there are a couple of vid clips in them too. Jay and Tucks.
One is 14MB and the other is 21MB. Any suggestions on where I can post them for free?

Start with your ISP. Most give you a limited amount of space for free, but it should be more than enough for these videos and much more.

Yahoo! Geocities gives you 15 Mb of storage and 3 Gb of transfer per month, although that won't host your larger video. You could always sign up for multiple accounts to host multiple files of 15 Mb or less:
http://geocities.yahoo.com/
Their "plus" package is a whopping $4.95/month and gives you 25 Mb of storage and 5 Gb of transfer per month.

Lycos Angelfire http://www.angelfire.lycos.com provides 20 Mb for free with ads, but also offers the following ad-free paid packages:
  • Neon - 25MB for $4.95/Month.
  • Argon - 50MB, plus a free Domain Name for $8.95/Month.
  • Xenon - 100MB, plus a free Domain Name for $11.95/Month.
  • Krypton - 150MB, plus a free Domain Name and 15 e-mail boxes for $14.95/Month.

Xdrive http://www.xdrive.com is used not to construct web pages, but to store and share large files. Their basic plan is $9.95/month after a free 15-day trial and provides 5 Gb of storage. This type of setup may work better for what you want to do.

Xdrive appears in the Yahoo! file hosting category http://tinyurl.com/f5u which will provide you with numerous other options.

One of those is the Yahoo! Briefcase, free to any Yahoo! member http://briefcase.yahoo.com. This provides 30 Mb of storage of files that may be shared with family and friends. However, sharing of files on the free account is limited to those with a Yahoo! ID. Another problem is that individual file size upload is limited to 5 Mb. However, that can be increased to 15Mb, total storage increased to 50 Mb, and full public file sharing added for $2.95/month or $24.95/year.

The bottom line? The heady days of gobs of free file storage or free web hosting are over, especially in view of the proliferation of digital video which uses lots of storage space and requires lots of bandwidth to deliver and share. Frankly, while I'd love to allow the capability of folks to do so here, I just can't afford the storage and bandwidth requirements. However, there are lots of services available for a nominal monthly fee for users to do so individually. You just have to find the one with the right mix of restrictions to allow you to do what you want to do.

As long as there not too big, I'm happy to host em for you off my home connection. I have Verizon Fiber with a 2MB/s upload (faster than a T1). PM me if you want me to make you an account and give you login info etc...

Actually if any forum members want me to host videos or webpages etc off my dedicated linux box just PM me. I'm not in a datacenter with a nuclear shelter and 6 billion back up generators but I got 2 Mb upload (soon to be uprgaded to 5 Mb) and 15 Mb download (soon to be 30 Mb), so pm me if you want an account.
