So today I got out to whiteface for my second ski day of the season. Nothing spectacular but it was nice to get on the snow again. I'd say todays conditions deserve the term varied conditions. So completely vague but true. The snow ranged from sheets of famous whiteface ice, to thin cover, to death cookies, to soft snow under the guns. They had what I like to call 1.5 trails open, they ofcourse called it three. Getting off the face lift quad after navigating your way through the sketchy rocky icy unload ramp you had the option of upper valley or broadway. upper valley had pretty consistent snow with few thing spots. Broadway was where things were quite interesting. They were blowing snow and in those spots the snow was pretty smooth and nice actually most of the trail was rather good until you reached the very end right before the midmountain lodge where it turned into some really nast death cookies. Once you reached the lodge the only way down to the base was lower valley. On either side of the lodge things were pretty thin with some scatter rocks and ice you had to be careful of after that things were pretty good with a few other places with thin cover but mostly good coverage. The trail wasn't covered entirely in the middle section but it didn't really matter since it is so wide at that point. They had a rail and 2 small kickers setup on the side of lower valley. Overall it was a good couple of hours of skiing with basically no one else there. You could ski right onto the lift without ever stopping. After a few hours my legs were toast so I decided to call it quits. I'm planning to be back this weekend and it looks like they may have a few more trails online as well as the gondola and possibly the little whiteface chair. They were blowing hard on excelsior, lower excelsior, lower empire, and mixing bowl, most of them atleast downlow looked like they could open tomorrow but shoudl definetly be online for saturday.
