Days 13-15: The Christmas gift that kept on giving!
I'll make this relatively brief, as today's project was to get our news content updated and I've got some family obligations to attend to this evening.
Friday was the warm, wet first phase of the storm.
Saturday was the cold, drier second phase of this 20-inch storm, and Alta was practically deserted save for a handful of visitors:
The beauty was that in such a heavy storm day, visitors were reluctant to venture anywhere that they couldn't see or that wasn't a marked run. That meant that absolutely untracked lines were relatively easy to score virtually all day long.
Sunday was just plain cold as snow finally tapered off. Virtually any gated terrain remained closed, save for Supreme Bowl and Catherine's. Crowds were surprising for a Christmas morning -- not busy really, I'm just accustomed to dead-as-a-doornail Christmas morning skiing. All lifts were still ski-on.
On Monday the crowds finally started to arrive along with the bluebird skies and temperatures barely above zero. Anant and I managed to catch the openings of both Backside and Baldy Shoulder in quick succession to enjoy the entirety of this 20-inch storm all over again and untouched. His knee started acting up around 11:30 a.m., so he took the ski bus home and I kept milking scraps, and avoiding liftlines by riding single.
I took a much-needed rest day today.
