Haven’t posted in a while, but figured I’d give a plug to Mammoth because it’s skiing incredibly well right now and lift lines are no longer an annoyance on the weekends.

I started at 7:30am this morning for Early Ups and despite not getting very cold overnight, everything has refrozen. The call was Gondi to the top to Cornice (good carvable snow), to 23, to Scotty’s (great fast snow, nice lip at the top to air in), and repeat. I did this until 10am and never waited in a single line, which is a real rarity for the gondola this season.

Photo of chair 23 early in the day, note the number of empty chairs.

Then skied a few race course lines on 1 as that was ski on before heading to chair 9 for some perfectly soft groomers around 10:45am. Skied a couple laps there before returning to the Main Lodge side, where I started another circuit. Gondola to Climax (both Upper Dry Creek and Sign Line were great—Super G turns out the apron) to China Bowl to Chair 3, World Cup to Chair 23, Wipe Out 2 (really nice wind buff) back to the Gondola.

I repeated this a whole bunch of times and ended the day with about 62,000 vertical, by far my most this year. Pretty great to ski perfect corn on climax, chair 3, and the lower race courses while getting winter wind buff on Wipe Outs.

Adding a few more photos from Climax—it skied better than it looked.

Considering the gondola had a 13 minute line on Wednesday March 24, I'm certainly surprised to hear of no line on Easter Sunday. However Andrew tells me that Fridays are busier than Sundays this season.

I figured skiers would eventually break up that sastrugi on the upper third of Climax.
