front leg is the steering wheel. engage leading edge. let the sidecut of board make the turn for you. go slow, but not too slow. some sliding/skidding may occur. that's ok. may even want to start with that to know how it feels to sideslip both heel/toe edges.

strap in. look uphill. stand up and follow board across hill on one edge. stop/fall? flip over to other edge. do the same. repeat. once comfortable with that, point downhill to link turns. control speed. if it were easy you'd have two boards and it'd be called skiing. keep at it.

learn your edges. feel your edges. know your edges. much like ice skating. "if you're not on the edge you're taking up too much room"

use softer boot/bindings/board. all pieces should be similar flex. soft is best for beginners. sizing depends on weight and foot size. you do not want toe/heel drag no matter your ability. stance should be something like 15 degrees forward for the front foot and 0 degrees for the back foot. some might suggest duck, but set it up in a way that will favor the direction you'd like to go. genius, right? good luck.

taking a lesson for gathering reference skills is good as well. as with most things, it's easier said than done, so field experience with someone is important.
