    Burke bought by Jay Peak

Well.... Here we are a year and a half since the news broke about the new ownership. After all the big hopes that Burke's future would be stabilized we get this: http://vtdigger.org/2013/12/18/burke-resort-cuts-ties-mountain-biking-trails-network/ Let's clarify the situation. Jay Peak didn't...

    Burke bought by Jay Peak

After a day to think about it... I think this is going to be great for both mountains. Jay will have a feather in their cap that isn't "quite so far away" from Southern New England and will have a laid back option for guests who want to escape the large resort feel that has developed at the main...

How do I post a saved message? I accidentally pushed the "Save" button instead of "Submit". Never mind #-o

    Burke bought by Jay Peak

Burke was just purchased by the owners of Jay Peak. This was definitely kept pretty hushed as I hadn't heard anything about this until the story was broken by WCAX this morning. http://www.wcax.com/story/18614019/burke-mountain-sold It will be interesting to see how this plays out for both of...

    Burke, VT HSQ

The Willoughby Quad is still there to use in the meantime. The Poma would have a crazy line and it doesn't go to the summit (although this would be pretty sweet on a powder day :) )

    Burke, VT HSQ

Burke got a REALLY late start on this lift as they were originally in talks to purchase Ascutney Mountain's HSQ. When that all fell through they had to order a new lift from Leitner/Poma. I don't know when the order was officially placed but it left the mountain with a rather small construction...

It's been almost a month so I figured I should finally update my Blog: http://fromthenek.blogspot.com/

Word is between $4 and 10 million. My guess is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $8 million. There should be some cost savings on the lift tower installations as 3/4ths of the liftline is within 250ft of a road which should reduce Helicopter installation cost. The towers on the...

    Burke, VT HSQ

Just to keep everyone up to date on Burke's HSQ story (since Burke seems to be keeping the whole thing rather quiet), I started a Blog yesterday with a goal of tracking the progress of the lift install. Go to the bottom to get the back story. Quick note that the Ascutney deal is gone and Burke...

The Yellow highlights are areas that were "approved for clearing" under the original approved Act 250 Ginn master plan. That was back when Ginn was going to dump a few hundred million $ into the mtn. I don't see that happening anymore ( [-o< ). Riverc0il is correct that the only widening that...

    Jay Peak 2/23 morning report

It was similar conditions 3 years ago when I made this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om4myVZaCCg (I tried to inbed this but couldn't figure out the controls :-k ) Winds were blowing 50-60 mph on the summit (there is a little spot in the video where you can hear the wind as Ian starts...

    Jay Peak 2/23 morning report

In N Vermont, Burke (off the spine) is a good bet to avoid wind holds. Monday everything was open with only mild/moderate winds. Sounds like Jay was excellent as well. Days when only the Bonnie quad in running are actually best for powder preservation. :D

Cold Sunday - More Shelter at Jay or Burke?

I wish I would have checked htis forum last week. I could have shown you around Burke Sunday afternoon. Instead, I was shovelling my parent's roof

    Stowe, VT: 04/19/08

I think that part of the reason a lot of people are on the mtns this spring is due to the abundance of snow left at lower elevations. I have not been able to get out on my mtn bike other than on a road yet this spring due to a lot of snow still kicking around in the woods. People still want to...
