The annual road trip from the flatlands of central Ontario starts Sunday. This year it's 5 days skiing with Woodwards @ Lincoln, NH as a base but I always try and hit an area on my way down. Departure time will depend in part on the weather forecast (current forecast is sunny but highs in the single digits F.) and in part on advice from the forum members.
Alternatives are:
1) leave at 2 am and arrive at Jay 9 am. It's just my wife and I so no glades - sticking to groomed terrain on day 1. I've been to Jay a number of times where the tram has been on wind hold. In single digit weather the Green Mountain Freezer is not an option. I'm used to 300' of vertical so I'm more than happy with what's available on Stateside, but I remember the runs as being pretty open. Any shelter from the wind?
2) Sleep in somewhat, leave at 5 am and arrive at Burke for the afternoon ski deal. I've only skied Burke once before and it was an incredible powder day. My youngest daughter and I spent the morning skiing fresh lines in the glades with my poor wife skiing by herself. This means all the groomers on Burke will be 1st time runs for me. Is there better chance at shelter from the prevailing winds?
3) Realize that I like all my extremities attached where they are, sleep in till 7am, leave at 8 am and make a leisurely drive to NH. Hope for a warm bluebird day/incredible powder day on the Friday home and ski either Jay or else Bolton (got a 2 for 1 at the Toronto Ski show) on the way home.
Thanks,
Adam
