The sun does shine at Targhee and Hood

I was definitely lucky in that during the two weeks I was in the region, it snowed just about every day in various amounts. Had I planned this solely as a ski trip, it probably wouldn't have snowed at all.

The sun does shine at Targhee and Hood

It wasn't entirely a ski trip, but I did get a few days of skiing last week, including blue bird days at Targhee (Tuesday) and Mt. Hood/Timberline (Friday).

    Southern Snow

This actually turned into a respectable early October snow: http://www.whitegrass.com/report.html .

    Bovec-Sella Nevea Mid-April 2011

This isn't a ski trip, but I was in the area. The next time you're in the northwest corner of Slovenia, or the northeast corner of Italy, you might want to check out this quirky resort area. Bovec on the Slovenian side, Sella Nevea on the Italian side, connected by a gondola constructed just...

    Teton Pass, MT 2/19-20/2011

Thanks. I like to read about these smaller and lesser known places. Nice photos also.

    Solitude, UT 4/18/2010

From the photos, it likes like neither that guy nor anyone else was there. Talk about having the place to yourself.

    Mont Grand-Fonds, QC 03/24/10

From what was visible, it looks like a beautiful spot. And all to yourself. What's not to like?

    Copper, CO 2-27-10

You're describing my day there last year with similar snow. And I remember the poma and all the people around me grumbling about all the people falling, and therefore feeling a bit nervous when my turn came. Great photos.

Yeeeee Haw! 20 more " and counting 27Feb2010

I waited maybe twice all day for a chair or two. 90% of the skiers were on 3 or 4 trails. It was sunny and warmer in the "nearby" metro areas, so I guess people are starting to think about spring. Let's see, the Wasatch or the Alleghenies, the Wasatch or the Alleghenies? I don't think so...

Yeeeee Haw! 20 more " and counting 27Feb2010

Okay, we don't get to brag very often down this way, and I know we fell well short of the 60" jamesdeluxe enjoyed at Plattekill, but Canaan Valley, 500 miles south of New England, somehow received 20" plus of dry snow from the same storm. It never rained or sleeted and the temps remained below...

    Timberline (West Virginia, that is)

Timberline Four Seasons Resort (not to be confused with the more well-known establishments with the same name), is Canaan Valley Resort’s younger sister, and is located just down the road. Nothing fancy about Timberline. It touts itself as a southern resort (“longest trail in the south”)...

    late winter!!

Y'all are welcome to come south. Canaan Valley has received nearly 90" the past couple of weeks: http://canaanweather.4t.com/

Almost Heaven--Canaan Valley, WV 12 Feb

Canaan Valley does average 160" per year, which apparently is comparable to some NE resorts. The difference is that down here, especially in recent years, we've been prone to Juneuary warm spells from which it's been difficult for the resorts to recover. And that same rain event that you...
