    Living down under

I would absolutely love to come to New Zealand and spend a summer skiing there THIS summer. I'm a Level 1 certified ski instructor and would like to instruct at a resort there. I know nothing about embarking on such an adventure and would like some advise on what resorts to look at, what...

    The ankle joint

Thanks for the discussion on this. I have been having trouble this season in making my inside leg "softer" and engaging that uphill edge more. I find that I'm losing shin contact with the boot on that leg as I move through the turn and I believe that the ankle focus and the one'legged skiing...

    The ankle joint

Yah, I've heard that helps with balance. I think I'll try it this week. I should be focusing on my ankles when I do that?

What would be the best focus to learn something new at a sma

They are the concepts, 178's, just like yours. I bought them two seasons ago too and they are definitely at rock ski status. The first season I bought them I broke out a piece of the rail had a new piece welded in and still liked them.

    Peek'n Peak Opens Tomorrow

Sharon, if I bring a truckload of snow and a shovel can I ski in your back yard? I'm from the Peek too and though we are on a glorified bunny hill I still have a good time skiing there. My favorite things to do on our hill are woods skiing, (and no, we do not have any woods runs there. They...

What would be the best focus to learn something new at a sma

Ryan, think about what you want to ski carefully, bud. Do you remember how much you hated those twin-tips you skiied at Killington a few weeks ago? Just because you can go backwards and jib doesn't mean you'll like that type of ski in or out of the park. Besides, Justin and I were talking...

Memory of a quote that made me ski....

"The question is not whether you can ski it and live, the question is whether you can live without skiing it." That's an old K2 ad that inspired me greatly.

    Bad skiing habits

Thanks Jim! That's all solid stuff that I can use and since my resort is opening tomorrow (YAH!) I'll get to try it out soon. Just as an FYI, Ryan taught me to ski (long before we instructed) and now work together at Peek N' Peak. We met Patrick at Killington and I finally got around to...

    A lesson for the ages.

One of my favorites was at the PSIA First Tracks event at Hunter Mountain this past March. Instead of bending the inside knee to initiate my turns, which I tend to do much too aggressively, Eric (my facilitator) told us to use the pad of the foot directly behind the little toe on the INSIDE...

    Bad skiing habits

I have problems with my turn initiation. I hurry and force it with my inside knee and end up rushing the end of the last turn, missing my neutral position and winding up in the back seat as I'm trying to force that next turn. It makes bump skiing hell if I'm on a tough run. Also when I jump I...

    Parks and Pipes and Steeze

Anybody have any good advice on body mechanics in the parks. I try taking lessons in them but I can't show them much because I lack jibbing skills. I guess I would be most interested in advice on "landing" jumps after tricks, on rails or in the pipe. Does anyone know what "Steeze" is?

What is a plow and why would you throw salt?????

Love to see it man!!! That's right, went to Richmond for the weekend and came home to a foot of fresh snow on my road and in my yard. Luckily the plows hit it in the night for the buses making my drive home that much easier. Hey Ryan, you gonna be at the Peek this weekend? I'll be up at...

What is your favorite "Classic Narrow Eastern Trail&quo

Never been to any of the "Classics," but if you're ever in Southwest NY check out Holiday Valley's "Swiss Twist." It's fun, windy and you never know what you will find on it
