    Gulf of Slides, NH: 04/26/08

Bummer! Pending good weather, I should be in that neck of the woods once per weekend or so going forward so keep me posted if you are ever looking for a partner. How was Cannon on Saturday? Still looked really good from the road and it looked like top to bottom was still possible without...

    attitash a.m. wildcat p.m. 4/26 killer corn

Given the east/west travel aspect of Northern New England, even though I am 1.5 hours north of Boston, I am still about four hours away from the Loaf. I have driven to Saddleback in Maine which is a little closer, but my times skiing Saddleback were not during corn season during which the Loaf...

    Gulf of Slides, NH: 04/26/08

Quite a day today. Got a later start than planned and paid the price as the main and aux lots were full by 8 A.M. so I joined the masses lining Route 16 with parked cars. Got a few odd comments regarding wearing shorts and putting on my boots ("You gonna hike up in those?"). Nah, I'm gonna skin...

    attitash a.m. wildcat p.m. 4/26 killer corn

Attitash got a ridiculous snow making upgrade this year with the ownership change from ASC to Peaks (who did the same thing to Crotched and Mount Snow, which is one of the resorts going late this year and surprisingly so). Judging from what I saw from the top of GoS today, Attitash may have some...

    Mt. Washington, NH - April 23, 2008

That is always true regardless. ;) I hit more mush than corn up there so I have not been up there on the good corn days. Good skiing regardless though!

    Mt. Washington, NH - April 23, 2008

My personal definition of corn doesn't match up well with conditions lately. Not saying the skiing has not been stellar by any means! But not freezing up at night and with temps hitting 70, the snow has been a bit mushy for true corn conditions. This morning when I woke up, the summit had a...

    Mt. Washington, NH - April 23, 2008

Indeed, very abnormal for April. I can not remember the last time we had a rainy day. Maybe a short shower once every week or two at best, but this month has been characterized by anything but its precipitation. Though we have not had really good corn lately because the damn temperature has been...

How will ski areas fare with 5.00/gallon gas

99 Saturn Coupe and I get 35 MPG though I regularly get between 40-45 when driving east/west style in NNE with back roads holding speed steady around 50-55 MPH.

How will ski areas fare with 5.00/gallon gas

I kept meticulous records of every dollar I spent on ski season this year (excepting food costs since a man's gotta eat one way or the other) and am currently on track to have fuel costs total exactly half of my season costs. That total is somewhat loaded because it will include my earned turn...

How will ski areas fare with 5.00/gallon gas

One might also wonder how certain destination resorts will fair because of increases in airfare and add-ons such as charging for multiple checked bags. Gas is significantly upping the cost of travel by air which may also have an effect. This is a wealthy sport and I am not convinced that four...

    Where is Mecca?

That sounds about right. Mecca's are also time specific, not just place specific. Tuckerman Ravine got tossed out there as a Mecca of the Eastern US, which it is on some days and other days it can be fairly miserable and not worth the trip. Any place in the world can be a great location but not...

    Stowe, VT: 04/19/08

Why are you reading this? Go get your gear ready, pack up your gear, make a sandwich, and check the weather! No need for any more information! If you didn't ski today, you really should be out there tomorrow. Okay, with that aside, a little more information regardless. Sunday the 20th is...

End of Season??? Time for New Skis??

Get thee some 90+ under foot for powder days, sir! My 8000s are 79 underfoot and work very well up to a foot of powder and less dense stuff. Over a foot, oh man, the fatter skis are worth the addition to your quiver.

    Who's in this week?

I have vouchers for MRG and Stowe remaining. Looks like now or never and with the Inferno happening this weekend, certainly no reason to go near that zoo.

I was across the street today. Stellar day. They might not go until first week in May, but their coverage looks really good yet for this time of year.

    Your 2007-08 Ski Day Count

November and December powder are almost non-existent  and even January looks to have some lack luster years. I dunno Tony, that graph isn't going to convince any one on this side of the states

    wildcat, nh 4=9=08

I found last season was better overall for quality of powder days. I had similar powder days this year but the quality was not quite at par. Part of the reason I think is the majority of skiers thought last year sucked while this season ruled. So, naturally, more skiers showed up this year...

Where to Live in Upper New England

Don't forget about respectable distance to Mount Washington and Wildcat from Portland though VT is a haul which makes it not ideal for powder hounds.
