not a cloud in the sky as far as the eye could see....40f at the 302 /16 intersection at 830am...pulled into the lot and saw the same 40f.. the morning was groomers till about 11 and the first slip of panther began.. early lunch and back out to charge at 12...everything was primed by then.. line of the day was starr or liftlion to feline to catenary to panther...a truely epic afternoon....
starr and liftlion are in trouble.. the coverage is very thin and will not make it in my opinion after this sunday...panther is getting hit and might go till next week sometime...al's is better but also might not make it past next week...catenary is also in some trouble...the groomers stayed pretty firm for most of the day as the base on the groomed trails is amazingly rock hard... i think wildcat really got a ton of rain this year followed by hard freezes and it shows....this is not april of 07 for sure
the skiers left side of the hill has more coverage ( ie middle wildcat and the race trails over there ) but it is a strange surface... last year at this time middle wildcat was all bumped up... this year i don't think it has a chance to bump up even if they didn't groom it again.....you can just feel how hard the hill is on the groomers...they groomed the hell out of the place this year becasue of the rain and the base is really just a lot of ice on those groomers...
probably topped out at 50 at the summit and close to 60 at the base... the lot was probably 25% full....we charged it as hard as i ever have and at 4:15 pulling out the bottom outrun of panther, we were as toasted as i can remember being in a long time....just sat on the deck till 5pm in soaking wet exhuastion
my opinion is they have no shot of going to may 4th, never mind beyond that...but i guess we'll see...
back to loon tomorrow for what we hope will be some full day bumping on the flume course...loon's 1000ft lower elevation should get the bump lines up relatively quicker
