    New England Snow Holes

You can disagree all you want Tony, you are not the one skiing out here and you yourself have just noted the difficult in determining snow quality in NE with your methodology. Here is what the numbers do not show: While almost no ski areas were able to open in November due to above freezing...

    New England Snow Holes

This year's storm patterns in New England have been fairly atypical with many of the normal big winners doing poorly (see Stowe and Sugarbush last weekend) and some other places doing way better than average (see Saddleback and Cannon last weekend). Also note last month's storm that killed south...

    Acid Christ is a poser

Marker did such an amazing job with the Duke marketing. I suspect fully half of the skiers in the Northeast that have Duke's have never used them. So many get them "just in case" they take up and like turn earning. Talk about putting the cart before the horse!

    eastern backcountry ski forum

Perhaps. Perhaps not. If going for largest number of views and critical mass, then it would make the most sense to post on TGR or for New England then AZ. But sometimes it is not just about getting the most views (such as my site for reference, online now for 10+ years now as a file for my TRs)...

    Cannon Mt, NH, Christmas Day-2009

Great shots on a beautiful day! A special place to hike and ski for sure! Nice seeing you up there on Saturday.

    camcorder recommendation

Holy crap this is a huge bump! Four years old? Suffice to say, MiniDV is OUT now, don't even bother. So Firewire is not needed. Most camcorders will transfer with either a USB cable or a sD Card. If you purchase a camcorder that requires a a sD card and does not have internal memory, be sure to...

    Climategate in the Popular Media

The consensus that I have heard is exactly the opposite. One of the reasons there is so much resistance to the notion of countries taking action to mitigate any possible man made effects on climate change is the potential economic impact. All the new green technologies in the world will not make...

    Climategate in the Popular Media

As a person that is scientifically minded, I have to admit this statement is very true. But by that very definition, that does not mean that climate change has been debunked as a "hoax" and that the issue is settled the other way. Those in opposition to man induced climate change will be...

    Storm Prediction High/Low

And another year of no grumpy riverc0il!!! \:D/ I think this is the early season skiing equivalent of the ground hog seeing his shadow.

    snow this weekend?

My "two hour" tracked out may be slightly exaggerated. But I have arrived at 8am to see their gondola parking lot almost completely full. Folks get there at the crack of dawn when the lifts are not even turning and I have had runs where it was difficult picking out completely untracked lines top...

    snow this weekend?

That would actually be Mansfield that gets tracked out in two hours on an earned turn powder day. I have always had plenty of elbow room at Jay before the lifts turned. Surprisingly so, actually.

    snow this weekend?

My current plan is Jay on Sunday. Saturday is a maybe depending on effort required for how much snow. I may hit Cannon instead of Jay on Sunday if Cannon gets enough to make an additional hour and a half round trip in the car not worth while for limited additional snow.

    November 2009 = pathetic

Bad as it has been, I already have four days this season and plan on (hopefully) increasing that total by two this weekend with perhaps some powder if this incoming storm pans out. Suffice to say, for lift serviced and snow making it has been really bad. However, let's take a more long range...

    Storm Prediction High/Low

Man, I love my TR archive. When Ma Nature is less than bountiful in her offerings, I can at least pass the time debunking Tony's stats and enjoying a trip down memory lane.  My Cannon report from December 9th of 2006 says boot to knee deep in places. Perhaps some blow around...

    Storm Prediction High/Low

       I was a VERY happy man early season of 2006-2007. That was the year I skied Valhalla and Power Line at Jay in friggin October. http://www.thesnowway.com/category/trip ... son/page/4 It all melted before base building so it is probably not in...

    Storm Prediction High/Low

If I don't get at least one foot of fresh before the Solstice, I become grumpy. Or at least, I think I would become grumpy because I think it has snowed at least a foot somewhere in New England before the Solstice every year since I have been taking this activity seriously.

How Are Current Economic Conditions Affecting Your Skiing?

While this thread is a season old, I will still respond to the OP regarding this season. 09-00 my goal is to have my biggest season to date. My goal is 60 days with my previous high of only 51 days. I plan to tour a TON more in my new Radiums due to improved downhill performance and increased...

    Digital cameras for skiing

Oh man, I am SO irate about the state of cheap point and shoots right now! My dog recently ate my camera (well, chewed the corner where the battery slider is to the point that it no longer works) and I started researching new cameras. The market out there for cheap point and shoots that are good...
