    Stellar Week @ Mt Bachelor

Nice pics. Conditions look great. I did a search on your snowmobile and see that it is a powder specialist. I used to ride back in the snowbelt country of Northern N.Y. in my teens, but on a much more basic machine. Fun in powder, although skiing was my preference.

    Baldy 2/12/11: Base Recon

I'm hoping for something closer to January 3rd, 2011, when there had been maybe 12"-18" of new snow and it continued into the morning. The Baldy crew handled that storm pretty well (although this one looks to be bigger, and continue more into the day on Saturday). I'm busy Sunday, so it's...

    Baldy 2/12/11: Base Recon

I made a reservation for Saturday, but that really depends on how much snow has fallen by Saturday morning, and how wild the weather on Saturday looks to be.

Mt. Baldy 1/3/2011 (Vintage Baldy day)- w/Link to Pictures

I didn't really stop that much. I took quite a few from the lift. Sometimes I took multiple shots at a time, including a lot of the ones with the sun shining. By the time the sun broke through the Thunder Mountain lift was down and I had already decided to head home. When the sun broke out, I...

Mt. Baldy 1/3/2011 (Vintage Baldy day)- w/Link to Pictures

Below is a link to my pictures. Most are of the scenic variety, although they do give an idea of how nice the coverage was. http://picasaweb.google.com/Baldyskier/01032011MtBaldy#

Mt. Baldy 1/3/2011 (Vintage Baldy day)- w/Link to Pictures

Mt. Baldy was enjoyable today. I'm not sure how much new snow they had- the sign at the ticket booth said 12". Pushing my ski pole down for informal measurements in the Gold Ridge trees and in the South Bowl indicated about 18" to the old base. The snow wasn't Utah light, but it qualified as...

    Southwest 72-hr fare sale

Tony, do you know how much it costs to fly from LAX to SLC mid season on short notice (say 2 or 3 days, or longest length of time that would allow one to take advantage of an approaching storm system)? A friend had to fly back to SLC from LAX on less than 1 day notice a couple weeks ago, leaving...

    Are all snowflakes created equal?

I'm a little surprised that the ratio of current snowpack to season totals are as close as they are between Alta and Mt. Bachelor. Maybe the Bachelor powder was nearly as light as the Alta powder this year?

Now the site says "Sorry, We are sold out." Thanks for the heads-up, though. It will be interesting to see how much impact that offer has on the turnout. I think they gave out quite a few. I tried getting on the website yesterday after I got the email and it was jammed. I did manage to...

    Mt. Baldy, 3/20/2010

Baldy has great spring conditions now. There wasn't enough snow at the bottom of Chair One to allow me to load with my skis on, but that was one of the only noticeable affects of the retreating snow. I started skiing at about 9:30, with my first 2 runs on chair 4. The coverage is still good...

Thanks for the update, Tony. I plan to go up Saturday. I thought it might be too warm, but Garry's info sounds like it will be fine. Any idea how long the snow might last on Thunder? My niece and nephew wanted to go up, but can't make it until after Easter.

    Mt Baldy 3/11/10

Tony, do you think Saturday will be warm enough for decent spring skiing at Baldy? It's supposed to be a little cooler, with a high of only 43 deg., per this site: http://snowforecast.com/MtBaldy
