    AVY Safety Inbounds?

Your chances of getting buried inbounds at a ski area are less than getting shot by Dick Cheney

    Alta January 10

Not many locals because of the lack of new snow, most of the hikers were on the first lap for Main Chute, Castle had been partially opened the day before so nobody was paying attention. All in all a perfect storm. Well, actually no storm. Usually safe to go to the wall and ski the gut/ didn't...

    Alta January 10

The last major piece of the Alta puzzle fell into place this morning as the Castle opened all the way to the wall. Amazingly, there were almost no takers despite creamy untracked powder. The only unopened terrain is off Baldy (East Baldy, Little Chute/ Dogleg, Perla's, and Upper Shoulder)...

    2009-2010 Jackson Hole Snow Reports

Snow totals from the Rendezvous plot (9500') and Raymer plot (9300') don't accurately reflect what happens lower down/ most of the terrain is at lower altitudes. I only go to Jackson when it is snowing.

    2009-2010 Jackson Hole Snow Reports

Of course if you are not experienced in backcountry travel $300 is cheap insurance against a burial

    2009-2010 Jackson Hole Snow Reports

Hi/ skied Jackson on Thursday. Less snow than I have ever seen there/ still had excellent surfaces thanks to the Wednesday storm. Closed areas include Tower 3, Corbett's, Alta chutes, Bird in Hand/ Pepis', Upper Casper, Crags, Hobacks, Hoop's, Toilet Bowl. In other words, a lot of the goods...

Jackson Hole patroller buried by avalanche

Closed terrain now includes Corbett's, Expert Chutes, Alta Chutes, Tower 3 Chute, Hobacks, Upper Casper, Crags. The Tram/ Thunder/ Sublette lifts were closed on Wednesday. Was standing at Sublette Ridge when they dropped the rope about 1:30. Nice powder/ didn't hit anything/ sure were a lot...

    Sugarbush 1/4-1/6

My family had a house in Warren and we skied at Sugarbush almost every weekend from 1977 to 1999. What is described above sounds pretty good. I don't think you missed anything, Tony.

Jackson Hole patroller buried by avalanche

Skied by the accident site of few times today. It was at the Southwest corner of Cheyenne Bowl/ ran from Rendezvous Trail all the way to the bottom of the bowl/ maybe a 3' fracture. There was a posting yesterday on the JHMR web page about the accident/ fairly detailed. Visitors to Jackson...

    Okay Where

Steamboat points in the wrong direction for March skiing. And beauty is subjective, but to my eye some of the least attractive development in all of skidom.

Jackson Hole patroller buried by avalanche

Was at Targhee today for the 17"/ make up for missing the storm last week at Alta. The people showed and things were tracked out by 10:00. Was losing interest then the sun came out and it was beautiful. Drove over to Jackson tonight and heard about the accident. Everybody here seems to know...

    Okay Where

Snowmass has the ambience of an early shopping mall. These guys are from the old world. We want then to see the best our country has to offer. Aspen is worth the extra $25. Sun Valley was giving away lift/lodging packages when I stopped by last March 12th on my way back to Seattle. I...

    Okay Where

The intermediate trails should be well covered then even in a bad year (there are still two months to go before the trip), and Colorado is the best bet for surface conditions in March. I wonder if this guy is even reading this thread any longer?

    Okay Where

Agreed. Stoneham should not be on the agenda of the global free rider. Though in its defense the liftline of the chair off to the right was kind of fun...

    Deceptive Advertising at Ski Resorts

I heard the same report. It is up to us to keep them honest. Alta (and the Dartmouth Skiway) are among the most accurate at reporting snowfall amounts.
