    100 Days!

Of course, if you had to know, there is a way to find out on the Alta website; you only have to type in your pass number. Last day at Crystal but off to Mt. Rainier instead to ski the Muir Snowfield.

    WOW

Been there three times, most recently during Thanksgiving 2008 (really dark out). Small area/ great steeps on North Face but the rest of the mountain is less inspiring . The snow can be quite wet given the proximity to the Turnagain Arm/ lower mountain rain is a real possibility at any time of...

    Out west for 11 days.

Steamboat... You were warned. Glad the snow was great/ think you got more than the median.

Big storm coming..and flights are through the roof!!

Same story from Seattle. Powder turns to chowder fast this time of year if it is any consolation...

    My big West trip

Only spring snow today was in Mineral and Yellow Trail (I am sure Challenger was baked though I didn't get to Supreme as usual). Castle and Sunday Cliffs and Little Cloud and Ballroom/Baldy Shoulder were all high quality if density inverted windblown powder that would have been impossible to...

    My big West trip

I think I70 is still closed in Glenwood Canyon. This means that you would have to take 40, and that a day at Steamboat may be unavoidable. Bring a book.

    My big West trip

Forecast is looking snowier for you. Agree on the Aspen thing. Besides lower snow quailty, Steamboat is the Stratton of the west. And you already hit Stratton this year.

    Alta March 11 + Pictures

Thanks Admin. I will be watching my monitor to see what is going on out here. In the meantime, there is some business to take care of this weekend (Tony must be leaving or something).

    Alta March 11 + Pictures

All of Baldy opened today sometime before 10:00 when I got to the top of Sugarloaf. First lap was smooth soft snow in Main Chute. By the second lap, there were ruts, and by the third moguls. Stuck in Main because I didn't want to get a core shot on some of the other routes. The bad part...

    Alta, UT 3/6/2010

Waited at the gate for High Notch for 40 minutes in that wind. Had dressed for a day of vigorous hiking so I froze. Thought the slab was at least passable. Castle never opened and Ballroom closed about noonish so went over to Snowbird. The best snow of the day was the line under Pyramid Rock...

Also closed for the day were Road to Provo and Powder Paradise/Bookends. Not to mention the other closed areas too obvious to mention. Saw Skidog in the Keyhole. Elected to take the Tram back around. 3 box wait (when Collins had a 5 minute line) if that factors into your day planning for...

OK Marc. She is cute. And it looks like PC got more than the usual dusting. But still, in your heart, you know that you wanted to be at Alta. The one mitigating factor for you is that neither Ballroom nor Backside opened. You will be able to see tomorrow what you missed today.

    Alta in April

With the dual don't have to. We can take Wildcat and ski Keyhole! The traverse is lame.

    Alta in April

You can ski Baldy Chutes and get back to a Snowbird lift. Ski to the Collins angle station and take the traverse to Collins Face. Keep traversing under the Wildcat lift (there is always a traverse line here now). Eventually you come out above the View condos where you can catch a groomed...

    Alta in April

Of course if the skiing isn't all you hoped for (last year it would have been, but that is not always the case) you can do a SW tour hitting some or all of Utah's 5 amazing national parks.

    Wasatch weather question

Started late (9:30) because of traffic on Wasatch (the Canyon was clear). Big crowds. Saw Backside was open after rounding the Collins angle station and was gearing up to hike to High Notch. Then, Ballroom opened as I was about to unload so took a lap on the shoulder. Untracked fluff, not as...

Not that there isn't a heavy dose of particulates admixed with that water vapor.
