    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Yep. Haven't even considered skiing yet. At least Copper is pretty close on opening several more public trails. Though it won't help much because lots more skiers are about to show up.

Resort Snowfall Reporting: When to start? (Jackson Hole)

Holy moley. I didn't think those web cams could actually be from today, but yikes they are! This may be a slight outlier season, but yeah the 50 and 25 inch numbers are bad misrepresentation. I get that somewhere they probably are trying to keep detailed NWS style annual snowfall records, but...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Hey, Arizona Snowbowl is opening one day early (today) with 37" of snowfall so far this week :) Mammoth is also opening today with multiple lifts and probably the most open terrain in the US (no idea compared to Canada but I know Sunshine for example has a fair bit open already). So much for...

    U.S. Presidency #47

I would actually think that it is the majority of the country everywhere that didn't notice (not just a place like Utah)? If you weren't flying, don't work for the federal gov't, or get certain handouts like SNAP... What would you have noticed that changed? So, maybe 15% - 20%max of the...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Also can't recall seeing delays from Grand Fog-ee, but do recall it from other early season areas like Alta and Steamboat on rare occasions. So I'd say not common at all, but not unprecedented either - so far at least.

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

I also have no FOMO for booking to FL for next week, leaving home on Sat. Hasn't even been cold enough in Colorado yet for me to really need warm air, but some relaxed golf and beach time will be much better than trying to join crowds on a tiny handful of groomers. Hopefully it'll be cold enough...

    Western North America Conditions 2025/26

Even Colorado is not good. Very limited terrain open, though a lot of resorts are open with 1-4 trails. Within Colo the temps have been odd this fall too. This morning Copper was 18F but Eldora was 30F despite similar base elevations. So Copper has been pounding out snowmaking lately while...

Will Mammoth bother to open in October 2025?

Understatement. I struggle to find all that much value at my basic plan that was discounted pricing. Lots of numbers, charts and reasonably slick interface etc..., but it's still all based on aggregated information I can get elsewhere for free. So, sort of helpful to have it more easily...

Total Solar Eclipse, Apr. 8, 2024

We had mostly reddish on Tuesday night from the recent solar storm. Barely even visible at all without a camera. My first time seeing them in Colo despite all the years I've been here. But also certainly by far the least visible and least impressive that I have ever witnessed - by a long shot...

    Patrick's Streak, Ski Travel Priorities

I find this statement pretty funny. Even if we ignore our FTO nit-picky commentary on trip choices, the fact is Patrick has a ridiculously long ski streak. How many people in the world can say that? Including so many of us 'peanut gallery' experts (none of the rest of us have a streak going...

    Eldora, CO 2025-26

Sorry no skiing yet. But thought I'd start a thread for this year as I had reason to be up at the mountain today anyway. I think they have enough snow made to open, though it would be just barely. Not to mention super warm temps Sun-today (supposed to cool off finally sometime tomorrow). It...

Surprised none of this is juicy enough to tickle the national news. The latest: Lift ticket tax approved

    Beer thread

Corona, when blind taste tested without the lemon always loses badly to literally any other beer. That beer has great marketing but tastes absolutely horrid. I pretty much can't drink Bud, something in there that doesn't agree with my GI tract so I have never been a Bud person ever. To give...

    DFU Zone

That's a very weird (to me) pic of Corbets. It makes it look like there is no cliff face to be run into to the skiers right - almost looks like a big open bowl to drop into. I always say the first turn is easy (the left footer as you drop in from where jimk's son is). It's the 2nd turn that'll...

Abasin opens for 2025-26 on Oct 26

And just to keep all the Colorado early season openings in a single thread: Winter park opens at 1p this afternoon (Oct 31st). Though usually on the flattest terrain you have ever seen. Recommend avoiding at all costs for at least the next several weeks. With Copper mtn open for racer...

    More Telluride Mismanagement

Chris will love the reporting in this Denver Post story today. Telluride wants to chuck Chuck (just make sure javascript is off and you should be able to read)

    Beer thread

I have a nephew who is actually a "double IPA" lover. That stuff is crazy bitter hoppy tasting. I used to go for certain regular IPAs myself back when I was a micro brew drinker.

    Europe 2025/26

I'm late to any of these Euro threads, but have to say yea, This. For Gen Z if the information is plausible sounding then that is all it takes for it to be true enough for them. Actual hard earned facts and knowledge are almost totally unimportant to them. I can't wait till we get Gen Z...

New Italian regulation: Mandatory use of CE-certified ski helmets

My guides in Europe last year both were wearing Helmets.
