No sale. One more week in AK and I will reassess. I had an identical Fritschi failure at the top of Mt. St Helens. Went out and got Dynafits.

The light was still good at 3:18 today. Maybe the days are getting longer? 4 degrees and it felt it. No crowds. This is not the kind of place you could ski every day without wanting a bigger playground.

    Alpental 12/31

Since the Utah gang has gone quiet I will file an entry from the PacNW. Alpental has an excellent base from the November storms (around 70" at the top). It did not snow for weeks on end in December during which time the snow got progressively firmer. Happily, it has been snowy the past...

    January on the Powder Highway

I did Baldface for four days in January 2003 during a prolonged high pressure in Utah. I remember shortish runs of lightly gladed terrain/ a couple of steep tree shots. The lodge was only partially built at the time, the "Chateau Atco" (Atco trailers, long since replaced by more upscale digs)...

    Western Canada Road Trip

Thanks for the info everybody. Passing on Kicking Horse. Had enough of driving and there is a good preseason rate on a suite right at the bottom of Revelstoke. Wish I could do Mustang but have a prior commitment with my guide. It is $500 a day right now at Mustang which sounded like a lot...

    Western Canada Road Trip

No data plan in Canada so no cell phone shots, sorry. Plus, I am a slow typist skiing by myself this week so not a lot of text, either. Dec 17 Left Seattle at 5:30 AM and got to Whistler Creekside at 9:30. Definitely less convenient than leaving SugarHouse at 8:40 and getting to Alta at...

Some deals are too good to pass up

I actually had a Gold Pass 15 years ago (they were a lot cheaper then). Of course, I chose to ski at Alta and was unable to amortize the cost.

Congratulations Marc. The 65 retirement age will have gone the way of defined benefits retirement plans in 20 years. Therefore it is logical to forgo part of your income and ski 100 days a winter now.

    Snowbird Patrol Data, 2010-11

Snowbird was on the front page of the New York Times today. The article did not touch on the Gadzoom controversy.

    Snowbird Patrol Data, 2010-11

Speaking of Icelanticskier, I went for a hike today on the Franconia Ridgeline. I saw no snow anywhere. What do you suppose he is skiing on?

    Joffre Lakes/ Slalock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP9zqaZnZt8 This is the Fissile fun on Sunday. About 55 degrees pitch here. Glimpse of Whistler in background. Marc, how do you embed video in the text rather than simply posting a link?

    Joffre Lakes/ Slalock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbRuKFTLakM Last Saturday toured Mt Slalock above the upper Joffre Lake. It was perfect weather and blower powder. Sunday did Fissile in the Whistler backcountry. The terrain here is spectacular/ we have had no spring yet either. When it comes it is going to...

    Alta, UT 4/17/11

UT/NW inversion. There was nice fluffy powder in the Blackcomb sidecountry today. Still, doesn't numb the ache from missing last weekend @ Alta. Should be skiing into July here. Mt. Baker has a 275" base. See you next winter, Doug
