    Big Sky, MT 12/4/07

Since I am a local, I havent stayed at Big sky much, I occasionally snap up some of thier late season lodging specials so I dont have to drive back to Bozeman and can spend a night on the slopes. Cheapest Stay in Belgrade or Bozeman at one of the dozens of hotels there, should be able to...

Looking for resort recommendation for Canadian Rockies

I will be doing some work in Calgary in December and will be driving up from MT for the work. I am planning on taking 3-4 day to go skiing during my drive up. I will be driving past Fernie, Kicking Horse, Lake Louise, and Sunshine. Which of these resorts would have best track record for early...

    Big Sky, MT 12/4/07

Just wanted to give everyone a early season report on Big Sky. Nice coverage and good base depths all the way to base. The bowl below Lone Peak Triple has great coverage and had some patrol induced slides running into it. The tram isnt open yet, but already Big Couliour has enough snow to run...

    Big Sky 3/4-3/11

Liberty bowl is IMHO a fairly easy easy double black or moderate regular black depending on conditons. It is usually a little windpack or maybe icy near the top becuase of everybody skiing the the same spots. It opens up to a pretty wide slope with a consistent pitch and almost no features...

    Moonlight Basin Mt.

I haven't skied the north summit snowfield yet ($78 is too damn much for just one extra run), but I have viewed some of the terrain from below and from the summit of Lone Peak. The top part looks to be a steep but fairly wide open bowl that will either be powder heaven or windblown hardpack...

    Newbie... ski jacket advice

Sohobaby, I bought a Mountain Hardware jacket and pants combo last season that I like a lot. Mountain Hardware stuff has all the fancy high end technical contruction features, but are generally significantly less than some of the other high end brands. It uses it's own proprietary...

Has winter finally arrived in Utah?

I've heard that they might start plowing as far as the Chisholm camprground, which is where the East Fork branches off. The following link is from a climbing website that details everthing pretty well. If they plow it that far, that would open up a ton easy BC stuff. [/URL]Gallatin National...

Has winter finally arrived in Utah?

I did a preseason exercise hike up Mt. Blackmore (~10,000ft.) outside of Bozeman today. I brought my snowshoes along, but wasn't expecting to need them. Boy was I glad I brought them. Above 9000ft the coverage was pretty good. The was an average of about 6in on top of an icy crudy base...

Has winter finally arrived in Utah?

Montana looks like it will get a little action from the same storms. Snow line yesterday was about 8500ft. A snotel site at 9100ft got 7 inches yesterday in the Madison range (near Big Sky). All other snotel sites I check were 8000ft or under showed no new snow yet. Today the snow line...

    Winter Storm Watch in MT

Most rental car companies have 4WD vehicles with all season tires available. None of the roads to the resorts are that bad, though. Between Bozeman and the three main local resorts there are no passes to go over. Even FWD with good tires will easily get you to the resorts in most weather.
