    Teton Pass road collapses

It brings me no pleasure to say we'll start to see more of this. We see it here already. Glenwood Canyon is teetering on the brink. The last straw were the fires that wiped out the vegetation. Now there's literally nothing to hold the rain. So the problem compounds. Sooner than we think, a...

Is FTO the oldest ski forum?

I thought so. My first ski forum post was on epicski.com circa ‘98 which is now gone. Pugski or whatever they call it now can’t claim connection to a long gone site. We should have a ski forum old timers get together before too long goes by and some of us have gone onto endless powder...

    FTO Telemarkers?

Around here there's an old joke/phrase. It's a parody off of the "I Love Tele" bumper sticker: "Nobody cares that you tele". It also extends to Loveland Basin ski area. Because the hardcore Loveland skiers are proud of their "I ski Loveland" bumper sticker: "Nobody cares that you ski Loveland"...

Goin' off at the Basin - June 7 and June 8, 2024

I know at least one person lost their ski yesterday - they fell in the middle, double ejected. The found one ski, but not the other. I know they tried looking for it. But since they were holding up the show, peer pressure gave way to abandoning the search and rescue effort.

Goin' off at the Basin - June 7 and June 8, 2024

Here's the full video from the June 020 crossing. June 020 with Tony Note we skied with masks. And social distanced in the lift line. Days gone by. Now on this day, I started from stopped. I think, that was because the snow was firmer. Even still, I was surprised to make it as the snowboarder...

Goin' off at the Basin - June 7 and June 8, 2024

Note in @Tony Crocker 's crossing the Lenawee lift, which was taken out a couple years ago. If I thought about leaning back at all, it was ever so slight. In talking with successful crossers I didn't hear much about leaning back. I do recall one person adamently advising against, because it...

Goin' off at the Basin - June 7 and June 8, 2024

Al's blog is a gem, for sure. I asked Alan about the sale. He said "it hasn't gone through yet". I don't know if this is good or bad. Like I say, Alan is one of the good guys left in the business. He always has time for the customers. Speaking of customers. He said he'd be happy to take me up...

My how the sport has changed

@jamesdeluxe got me thinking about something. I don’t see many “skinny” full camber skis now. It’s not wrong. It’s just different. Hey whatever gets you across the pond, right? I’ll have to get with @Tony Crocker, have him help me calculate how many skis I’ll need to get to 100. Then start...

Goin' off at the Basin - June 7 and June 8, 2024

Speed. You have to pretty much straight line from the top of the lift. And you have to take the right line. You don’t have to lean back, although I’m back slightly. Buzz kill? I saw people wipeout halfway in. Now that, would be a buzz kill!

    Skis for Colorado, Powder Versatility

Harald has a fervent and loyal following. But I think the core of their business is boot fitting. Like I say, I regularly see his stickers on skiers boots at the Beav.
