    Your 2007-08 Ski Day Count

Finished up with 65. Would have been closer to 75 except for comittments to travel to east coast and CA. And, a slightly ruptured disc leading to nasty sciatic nerve pain.

    Your 2007-08 Ski Day Count

I managed 65 days this past season. I had to end my season near the end of April due to a badly pinched sciatic nerve. I also had commitments to travel to the east coast for the first two weeks of May, and then I spent a week in San Francisco and San Diego. After my travels, I would still...

Where would you like to retire????

It keeps getting better the longer we live here! I hope those with priorities (Climate, terrain, family, activities, etc) different from mine find their perfect location for their RETIREMENT. To borrow a phrase from an historically prominent Utahan: For me and the time being...."This is...

Where would you like to retire????

^^^^ Ditto! ^^^^ My wife andI retired in 2001 from jobs on the east coast (Long Island, NY). After several years of flying out west, and endless 350 - 600 mile round-trip drives to "hit or miss" skiing (Yes, I know that is going to raise some hackles among certain EC skiers who love to...

    Snowbird, UT 4/27/08

How will we know who you are next time you come to the Wasatch?

    Snowbird, UT 4/27/08

After finding most of Snowbird rather crusty if not outright frozen early Saturday (I saw a snowboarder literally slide most of the way down Big Emma on his butt because he simple couldn't catch enough backside edge to get up on his feet), I delayed getting up there until around 11:00 AM today...

    Alta, UT 4/20/2008 (closing day)

Powder Mountain is a trek from my house..72 miles! And I used to think nothing of a 198 mile run north to Jiminy Peak in the morning, and then drive another 198 miles back home that evening. I must have been crazy  Now, the Wildcat parking lot is 17 miles from my house :D That makes...

    Alta, UT 4/20/2008 (closing day)

Closing day made me feel as if I had been transported 2,400 miles east to Killington. The day before was sunny, the trails had softened and a lot of the stashes in the trees and sunny aspects were still skiable. Not so on Sunday. "Porcelain" is an appropriate word. Luckily, I had added my...

Alta 4/11 Day 60 More Powder!

Again, I didn't get up to Alta until around noon. The morning gloom seemed to have dispersed and the sun kept peeking out. To my delight, Alta had received another dose of POWDER! With so few skiers present I once again found many totally untracked lines wherever I went. On a whim I headed...

    Alta 4/10 Day 59

I took Marc_C's advice and got my butt up to Alta this morning. Even though I didn't hit the lift until 10 AM, it didn't matter. The 14"+ that fell overnight wasn't even dented by the few "earlybirds" that had come out. I skied fresh tracks off every lift with barely a traverse needed...

Alta got 20" of snow...didn't any of you Utards ski????

Yup! Yesterday was POW in all directions with mellow temps and nice skies. I met a lovely couple from Connecticut and introduced them to all the powder that collects in the trees. They also learned that Alta rewards those willing to traverse a bit. At the end of the day I got one of those...

    Tahoe South....

I believe that both these points are probably very valid. Consider that Brits drive on the opposite side of the road. Despite the proximity to Europe, I suspect that many vacationers from the UK don't want to make the effort to get used to switching sides in a car.

Yes, it did seem out of character. But those guys were pretty sure about their information. I should have followed my instincts.

    Alta, UT 3/30/2008

Marc, I had paused to wait for Marc C and Amy thinking they had followed us out to Catherines. When they didn't show I tried to catch up with the crew. A couple of guys then mis-directed me as to where the group went when there was a choice between going higher, or dropping lower. That is...

    Brighton groomers 24 Mar 08

One of the reasons that I always own Manual Transmission vehicles is the safety and control that I feel when I run down the canyon roads (or any mountain roads for that matter) using the appropriate gear coupled with engine braking. My 08 Outback goes from Alta all the way down to Wasatch Blvd...

Greek Peak 3/22/08 - not so bad

Glad you had a good day at GP. It is always a good thing to widen our circle of ski buddies whenever possible. While I enjoy skiing any time I get out on the slopes, I always enjoy it more when I am sharing with someone else who enjoys it. It also makes traveling so much easier when you have...
