    Jay Peak's last hurrah

I seem to remember them selling beer at the triple before. The lady at the grill said they couldn't. :-k I usually don't hammer the beer when I'm with the kids..... Packing a cooler with one or two doesn't seem to make sense if you can buy one. Tomorrow I'll take a couple with me. Lesson...

    Jay Peak's last hurrah

Well I saw pink poles in the rack today but didn't see anyone skiing with them. Conditions were quite good. Plenty of corn and soft bumps. Not too many people. I think they could make it another week if they wanted to. They really didn't lose much snow today and there is still a hard base under...

Jay Peak marketing excellence - example

Hmmmm......Tuck's. My son and I went up Thursday on our way north and it was very, very good. Everybody had ear-to-ear perma-grins.Today could be iffy based on the weather forecast. Thursday evening the clouds rolled in and the weather was getting colder. They are supposed to get some snow up on...

    Jay Peak's last hurrah

From what I saw from the base of the Bonnie today, this weekends skiing will be limited to the Jet and Haynes. Looks like a bit of a choke near the bottom of Haynes. Pretty much everything else is cooked off. Big difference from Lucky's pictures from the 19th. I'm heading up Saturday and Sunday...

Jay Peak marketing excellence - example

Yeah, I just saw that in my e-mail. I was up there this afternoon checking it out. The only trails with snow on them are Jet and Haynes. Derricks is bare. Can-Am is toast. The woods are bare. Pretty much like the last day last year. My two boys and I are heading up tomorrow and probably Sunday...

Is the East Coast season finished? (powder-wise, that is)

...to quote John Belushi...Animal House...... "...Over?! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?! .......Nothing's over until we say it is..........come on, who's with me? Ahhhhhhhhh!(running out of the room)" Two climbers were swept 800 feet down Dodge's Drop in an avalanche next...

    Swain is closing

That sucks. Another western NY ski area bites the dust. Hopefully they will find a buyer. Until economic conditions improve that would be doubtful. The sad part is that they probably will not be able to keep the place intact. It won't take long for vandals and thieves to ruin the place. :(

    Skis made in China?!?!?!

Marc, No attitude is required with these skis. They ski just as well whether you have a chip on your shoulder or not. Just good, clean fun. The Bro's on the other hand........ :-k

    Skis made in China?!?!?!

..... or Icelantics, which are manufactured in the US. You can get them for a pretty good price when they're on sale at the end of the year. I liked the Volkl Gotama's but I refuse to pay that high a price for Chinese skis. If they were sold for a big discount due to their low manufacturing...

    Eastern Closing dates 2007-08

Way to get after it Patrick! How was Can-Am? I couldn't see it on Saturday. Upper mountain (top 1/3) of Jet was fogged in on Saturday. Everything was still pretty wet when I loaded the car Sunday so it wouldn't have been too pleasant. My son skied free on his Earn Your Turns voucher. Last one of...

"Thanks to cold temps this week and a 2-3" of natural snow, we'll be offering up skiing and riding both Saturday and Sunday weather permitting (it's supposed to pour Sunday). Lift tickets are just $25 for a two-day ticket and a BBQ will be bbq'ing at the Jet Triple with music and stoke." Skied...

    Jay Peak :: 4-26-2008 --- Party up!

How does the top look? Valhalla and some of the other stuff off the ridge? Did anyone venture up there? I'm debating about driving up this weekend. It looks like the rain may be gone and I want to try out my new rig......if the skins show up in time. Even if they don't it sounds like this...

more lame right coast skiing 4/16-4/18

Point taken.... I should rephrase.....not a lot of choices for places to stay when you don't plan ahead and roll into the area about 9:30 PM with two tired kids in the backseat asking "When are we gonna be there?", "Where are we staying?", "Are we almost there?". I will check out some of the...

more lame right coast skiing 4/16-4/18

I can attest for the snowcover at Sugarloaf. I took the wife and kids to Sunday River on Saturday and Sugarloaf on Sunday. I had never been to either before and both were on "the list". Sunday River was good and had plenty of snow on most trails but was suffering serious meltdown. Soft bumps...

    loon , nh 4-15-08

I skied there Sunday afternnon with my oldest son. Snowed part of the afternoon. Conditions were less than ideal with quite a bit of ice on the slopes worth skiing. Some good corn spread around here and there. Official trail count sucked. I don't know how they claim to have so much terrain open...

Went to Loon yesterday (yeah, I know...) because I've never been there before and my son and I both skied for $60 total. He had an unused "4th Grade Earn Your Turns" pass. Their trail count seemed bogus and they had a lot of runs closed due to small bare spots or a bit of ice. Snowed while we...

    harvest time!

Saturday at Cannon was very good on the lower part of the mountain. Fogged-in all day at the top. Sunday was epic at Wildcat. Misty rain in Gorham but stopped by the time we hit the parking lot. Tippy top in light clouds that cleared off with a nice view of Tuckerman's in the distance. Lower...

Where to Live in Upper New England

NH also has "donor" and "recipient" towns with regard to school taxes. Sometimes it seems backwards, though. From my experience, Act 250 makes it very difficult to subdivide property, even if you're not "developing" it. It's hard to find anybody in VT who has something good to say about...
