got very lucky! A few days later and it would have been a different story. I’ve had interlodge/canyon issues ruin a few days in LCC before so Chris’s point is fair but I still think on the whole there is more variability to the alps vs west. That article just mentioned resorts shutting due to...

https://snowbrains.com/french-ski-resorts-close-due-to-extreme-avalanche-danger/ Sounds like a mess during the peak of school holidays. Amazing how many more variables there are to contend with in the alps vs us. Need snow but not too much snow, sun but not too much sun, cold temps low winds etc.

Its an expensive sport anyway you slice it. Made worse by living in NY. I ski with the kids as often as I can in the Berkshires which can provide some value but for the most part I am getting on a plane to ski one way or the other. Using Snowbird as an example, I have done it every which way...

In hindsight the conditions we got were certainly very lucky but a lot of maneuvering went into the whole trip and maintaining our flexibility ultimately put is in a good position to get lucky. I am confined to these 5/6 day trips given I have young kids and most people in that situation would...

Solo is hard. We were 4. It basically worked out to 125 usd per person per day. Granted most people are not paying the day rate at any resort out west--but it still winds up being less per day to ski over there with the guide and lift ticket. And that is just comparing it to a regular day...

He did. I couldn’t believe how well they turned out. Almost like we had a professional photographer with us. Any photos I took myself looked awful in comparison. It helped that the terrain was mostly mellow. I tense up in high/technical spots and this terrain lent itself to just letting it rip.

    Serre Chevalier+Montgenevre 2/2/26-2/7/26

After a lot of false starts, a flight cancellation, and a switch from Zurich to Milan I ultimately decided to take our group of 4 to Serre Chevalier. The forecast showed a storm for much of the southern alps for Monday evening and on and off snowfall/clouds throughout the rest of the week. Given...

Hope you make it down Chris. Putting a TR together but we just wrapped up a great few days. 4 at Serre and 1 at Montgenevre. Plenty of snow. 2 of the days were as good as I’ve had anywhere.

I have a big fear of heights and usually struggle without my skis on in those situations and found the Courmayeur cable car entrance to the VB a perfect alternative. Not sure how much of the experience I missed by doing it that way but I was glad to avoid the walk down.

Chris, are those figures CM or IN? I assume IN. Remains astonishing how difficult it is to get accurate snowfall information from these areas in the absence of live trip reports. Whiterisk reports 7 cm at the Titlis station for the past 3 days. Opensnow, which is normally highly suspect...

Read through all previous trip reports. All seem great and worth trying. Am pretty agnostic between Monterosa ViaLattea and Cervinia and will likely decide based on guide/hotel availability. We need 3 rooms and have found options fairly limited across all areas. Pretty surprising given it is...

We were able to rebook our flights for next Sunday 2/1 to Milan which seems like an upgrade over Zurich. Thankfully the snow in New York got us a full refund . Nothing booked yet but I emailed the guiding offices in Cervinia and Monterosa as those look like the best options within 2.5 hours (did...

Sounds like you've got a nice long trip. My dad actually decided to join for this trip and hes not physically able to ski on arrival day at this point so I will have a day to reposition. Expands my range quite a bit so verbier or even zermatt is fine. Sounds like a better mountain for a mixed...

@ChrisC What are your takes on Verbier or Engelberg for Tuesday-Friday of this coming week? Does one have better tree lined pistes and off-piste trees available? The forecast looks snowy for both all week. I am concerned about visibility and do have the ability to reschedule for March. We would...

I have a refundable flight to Zurich on Sunday and nothing else booked. Keeping my eye on potential snow in the Friday-Monday period but also on a heavier storm next week. I am happy to go if some snow over the weekend materializes and then the forecast clears up for next week. But the idea of...

Kicking myself that I'm locked into Zurich and not Geneva. France definitely seems headed in the best direction. Still have a couple of weeks before I need to decide anything.

I can likely change flights to Milan or Geneva as i booked with miles. I like the Zurich flight because it arrives at 630 AM and I can be skiing by 930/10 and only have 4 full days of skiing to begin with. But if need be I can either change destinations or cancel entirely and try again in March...

Starting to be real concerned with my 1/26 trip to Zurich. The next 10 days seem bleak and there has been little snow in a month within my 2.5 hour radius for the most part. Not that out west is looking great either. This stinks!
