Edelweiss, QC - March 5, 2008 - Powder day in Ottawa????

You know there is a lot snow when Tommy Pic is open. I can't recall ever seeing it open in the last few years. Environment Canada is calling for 5-10 cms later today and 20 cm tomorrow. They were only saying 15cm officially but have upped the amount. Gad, that's another foot.

    First trip to Jay Peak

Speaking of lifts, the Jay regulars can confirm, but you only need to use the Tram for the Vermonter and Green Beret (on piste), otherwise the Flyer provides the same access.

    First trip to Jay Peak

By mid-afternoon some on piste trails that were decent in the morning may be sheets of ice, or ice bumps with ice between them, or just be really chopped to hell, regardless of how much snow dumped the night before. That can be said for any hill, but with Jay's wind potential it tends to be...

STOWE prices: Fraud, Ripoff, or Are They Ever Worth It?

Anyone who pays the full listed price at Jay is not trying very hard. It isn't hard to get discounted Jay tickets or coupons.

STOWE prices: Fraud, Ripoff, or Are They Ever Worth It?

Fraud would be advertising $30 but you can't get on the lift past the greens without paying $50 more. Stowe's rates are up front and you make a decision accordingly. No one is forcing people to go places. Stowe's niche is to be top dog in the east in prestige and $$, and that's the market...

Reason for so many trails counted at hills?

I heard an interesting one on why hills name every little segment on a hill as a different run. Aside from the marketing reasons usually cited, he said it was for insurance requirements so that if there is an injury or problem the location can be pinned down as close as possible, and patrollers...

Camp Fortune opening at 10am and the rest of Ottawa scene

Cascade was open this week too. But, unfortunately, the website shows 6 runs open, and they are charging full pop but only 2 runs are open, 1 the small beginner run. I went with 4 teens last night, with tickets and supper it was a lot of $ for what they had. First outing of the year for all...
