    Bolton Valley, 2/17/08

Along with the usual “Welcome” signs, when you get up the Bolton Valley resort area, someone had carved “BV Baby!” into the snow. That set the tone for my brief but very enjoyable stay at Bolton. :) Saturday night was clear & cold, but very calm. By 8 AM Sunday morning, it was already up to...

2/10 - Pico and Dartmouth Skiway

I simply had to respond to FTO's 1st Pico report of the year, if I'm not mistaken. Birch Glade is just a major fun zone - no, it's not steep, but the lines set up beautifully, the snow stays nice, and there are tree options on the left and the right. Glad to hear things are (were?) good at...

    Tuesday/Wednesday Storm

FYI this morning's reports seem to be warning us that sleet & freezing rain will mix in further North than what they originally said - which would justify going further North if u can, although I think Killington will ski & ride just fine, even if there's slop mixed in.

Snow's Back! Wx Fun tomorrow and this Weekend

Thanks for the update, 'freak! Good news. :D And if I'm reading my GFS correctly, it looks like New England may have a storm (white, not wet) mid next week. I'm excited, because the GFS would never, ever give us false hopes.

    Grand Targhee, WY 02/01/08

Notice how - on a mid-Winter Friday in excellent conditions - there is not one other skier in any of the pics. Apparently Targhee is still by invitation only. I think that point lends itself to the recent "Alta vs. Solitude" discussion. For us Easterners, getting away from crowds is really...

    RAIN THEN FREEZE

Atskier: Hey, when conditions are subpar in the East, you are better off on groomed, low angle stuff (hello, Rams Head). Let's all pray for some backlash snows! Jason: Yeah, looks like there will be no esacaping the event (ahem) on the 5th or 6th unless you are waaay up North (Quebec City...

    RAIN THEN FREEZE

OK Jason, I change my recommendation from "stay in Waterbury" to "stay in Morrisville", which will give you access to at least Stowe, Smuggs & Jay. Unless Canada's in your plans...as I keep hearing the "Go (further) North!!" proclamations from forecasters in the know. Meanwhile, speaking of...

    Snow King, WY: 01/26/08

GREAT MOMENTS IN SKI VACATION, VOL. 345 Wife: "James, let's get a table where we can have dinner by candlelight. It will be so romantic!" Husband :"Hold on honey, I need to go to the bar & find Christy the bartender, so she can set me up with a dirty girl scout. You want one?"

    RAIN THEN FREEZE

But if it starts & finishes as snow, Northern VT (talkin' Stowe/Smuggs & Jay, maybe Bolton) can end up better than you might expect. Think of how many of Powderfreak's & Riverc0il's "it was much better than I expected" reports we've received this month. Keep the faith. I'm more worried about...

    were should i go??

My initial reaction is to get reasonably priced lodging in the Waterbury, VT area, which gives you access to many places with a good shot at nice conditions (upcoming pattern will favor resorts north of I-89). That includes Stowe, Bolton, the Bush, and even Smuggs & Jay Peak if you're willing to...

    First trip to Jay Peak

Good thing your trip is this weekend, because as of next month, our corrupt gov't has decided they wish to destroy VT businesses along the Canadian border. http://www.reformer.com/ci_7999926

But November was warm & dry in Utah, so none of this counts

    Wildcat 1/19/2008

ahhhh...the Cat after a storm. Cannon & the Cat are NH at its best. Ski pow or die!

    Pico Dec 31, 2007

Sharon, you nailed it - the skiing on the hill served by the Outpost chair (one of the great old double chairs in New England) is much better when they don't run the lift! Freshies for a tiny walk or traverse? No brainer. And there are surprisingly good glades available on that hill. When I'm...

    Burke, VT: 12/16/07

Well, it looks like my vision powder paradise came up a wee bit short - I would have thought the "wind hold" day would be tomorrow. It may be as well! By the sounds of it, this reminds me of conditions after last year's Valentine's Day Storm...lots of pow had fallen, but it was dense...

    Jay Peak 12/15/07

Sharon. sounds great!! Cold, but great. Go 4 it tomorrow as Monday appears iffy due to wind holds. Is Bushwacked the really, really mellow glade run at Jay? Or is there a beginner glade called - going by memory here- Moonwalk? Maybe you could get your intermediate friends on that one. It has a...

    SKIP WORK--SKI BURKE! 12/12

Maybe I'm overestimating the tree skiing acreage at Burke...my statement was based on a willingness to be in the trees most of the day and not skiing the same line 2x. Still, Sundays in December (pre-holiday) are not like Sundays mid-Winter. Folks are just too busy spending their $$ on...

Ascutney - any reports this season?

I can only give you the lowdown on Ascutney from a few years ago - before I stopped going to Ascutney becuase of their lack of natrual snow and their lack of resources in snowmaking & grooming. Not a good combo, obviously. But if you're ever gonna go there, might as well be this Monday - or at...

    SKIP WORK--SKI BURKE! 12/12

I'm going to go waaaay out a limb here and suggest that, if one wanted to (i.e. hit the trees once the trails are tracked out - still not sure how much terrain will officially be open), one could ski fresh pow on every run this Sunday at Burke.

    KMart 12/8-12/9

Geez, what's up with the Vermonters moving to NH? First Riverc0il, now Pfunkride. Pico will be opening tomorrow with 5 trails. Of course, us Pico enthusiasts would never ski/ride closed terrain. 8) Wish I were there.
