Yeah... the new snow up top was full of water, so I guess when heavy rains rolled in, a whole lot of water went down...

    Le Massif, QC - April 24, 2005

My friends and I were supposed to be skiing at Ste-Anne for the week-end, but on Saturday PM, while the upper mountain and all the North Side were in a snowstorm, we were told the resort would: A- close half an hour earlier; B- be closed on the Sunday... so we had little options left. Whatever...

    Mont Sainte-Anne - QC - November 14, 2004

We went skiing in Ste-Anne on Sunday. Though 6 trails were advertized, it was really just two, the Paradeuse with artificial snow, and the Féréolaise on natural, with 4 trails leading into it. Conditions were very good in the morning, though traffic was heavy in Paradeuse. As one could guess...

    Killington, VT: 11/11/04

Great reports. I'll be in Ste-Anne this Sunday; I hope it won't be as crowded as this. Though my perception of what crowded has changed last August at Turoa:

    Ski Area Wish List

I spent 3 ½ weeks in New Zealand from Aug 13 to Sept 5, for my first overseas ski trip. It was indeed very good conditions... at Treble Cone skiing was possible even under the six pack at the very bottom - which I've been told is pretty rare. I had two powder days, of about a foot each in Broken...

Jumbo Glacier project clears major hurdle

Actually Patrick, that negative impact on other resorts is having a positive effect on environment. Some resorts, as you point out, may fall behind, and even close. Closed resorts' terrain goes back to nature, and just knowing that 500 ski areas have closed in New England (NELSAP....), I'm not...

Various NZ reports with pics - New Zealand - Aug /Sept 2004

I've made a 23-days trip to NZ this summer and had the chance to sample 7 different resorts. I had a blast. You can check out my reports on Zoneski, in French, but even if you don't understand the language, there are plenty of pics. Link to forum : http://www.zoneski.com/forum/ Click on "Zone...

Where are all the posts, anyway? Does anyone use this?!

It's great to see this forum back! The layout is great - feels like it has entered the 21st century. Of course easy picture-posting would help make it top notch. Good job Marc! I think even HAD the prior posts not disappeared, we would still have held the same discussion.

    Stowe - VT - May 29, 2004

I happenned to be in Stowe this weekend. I had read on the ski news that there would be a rail jam on Saturday, but it was already too late... couldn't get my skis before then. Not that I pretend I can slide on those things... I would have just made a few turns...

I did go and have a...

    Bretton Woods, NH - May 7, 2004

Thanks for the notification Marc... I should have figured out that there was some "bragging motivation" behind their opening on Saturday!

Luckily the skis were not my only pair... But they were the ones I rarely used, so they were pretty much brand new even at season-end.

And...

    Bretton Woods, NH - May 7, 2004

Ever since the meeting of my knee with a Mont Sainte-Anne rock on April 21, I was hoping I could get back into shape fast enough to conclude my season on a better note.

Last week, my knee had recovered enough for me to think of getting a few lift-served turns on an easy slope. Not many...

Conditions in quebec city and south of montreal quebec?

    Hi Joe,

Sutton is still 95% open, but it could go down to 60% quite fast. Coverage of the glades is shaky at some places, and the natural snow line is currently at around 425m (the base lodge being at 400m).

So depending on the temperature in the next 2 days, and on the amount...

    Mont Sutton backcountry - Feb 27, 2004

On Friday, the day of that report, lift lines were 5-10 minutes at chair II, 5 minutes at chair IV, and close to nothing on other chairs. On Saturday, though, lift lines were anywhere from 2 to 25 minutes, depending on the time and chair.

    Mont Sutton backcountry - Feb 27, 2004

I took a break from teaching yesterday afternoon and went skiing around the resort with a friend.

We took chairs II, IV and VII to get to the easternmost point of the resort, at 850m (Exil trail). We then hiked to the true summit, the Round Top, altitude 968m. After enjoying the view...

    Hi Sven,

I'll be in Sutton all week long, though maybe teaching. Conditions are quite good, with some powder available off-trails. If ever you go to the townships for a day, drop me a note... Max
