4/10 Okemo

This past Sunday was Okemo's last day of lift operation and the snow pack was in excellent shape on most trails. Some trails with Easterly or Sotherly exposure had taken a beating, but there was always a path down. Okemo had soft corn groomers at 8:00 AM on the sunny trails. The bumps had softened by mid morning on Sel's, Chief, Down Easter and other trails. The snow at the base of the mountain was pretty wet by early afternoon and there were some puddles to skim on some trails.

The prodigious snow making at Okemo, fast lifts and light spring crowds make for fun end of the season skiing. The rack rate lift ticket prices are steep ($45!), but I don't think many people pay full price as $15 discount coupons abound.

This was a nice end to my ski season.

I skiied Okemo on Thursday 4/8 when it was suppose to rain. What a great day!! No rain, overcast enough to keep the snow firm, but the sun kept poking out all day long. $29 dollar lift ticket, and 95 trails with no one on them!! They groomed the night before, and with nobody there, it was fresh spring corduroy on every trail, every run!! The people I was with stopped on the side of the trail for about a 20 minute break, and nobody skiied by during that time! Pure skiing nirvana! What a way to end the season!! :D
