well, well, well, what a ride it's been-so far.
kinda tough to believe any weather reports this week so, had to trust my gut and my gut was good to me.
tues morning 5:15 am leave newmarket for a 3 hour white knuckler to wildcat. pulled in at 8:15 to 6 inches of fresh and comin down hard. chose the kitty cuz they've been gettin lot's of snow lately and no rain that many other spots have been gettin. get on 1st chair with only 4 other people waiting and not a soul in sight. i won't bore you with details of the ski conditions but, i will say that 2100 vert of no tracks crossed on open slopes with 8 inches of the finest spongecake on a soft base for the 1st few hours
before having to get even a bit creative was pretty deluxe. very quiet day at the cat with folks saying, "where is every one?" i replied "they'll be here tomorrow for 2 for 1 and i won't be".
leave the cat at 5pm after beers and head to the valley for a computer and noaa check. call a buddy at burke who said they got only 3 inches and some drizzle but the skiing rocked and the cover was amazing, the cat had 8" and all snow so i knew i'd made a good call. messed around
all obsessive like and saw that north cental and ne vermont looked a bit colder with good snowfall potential for wed so, off i go to burke. nice to run a ski shop so i can ski free everywhere, ok 10 bucks at some spots.
pull into burke, snuggle into my bag in the wagon with girlfriend and dog-who needs a room. and wake up at 6 to PUKEFEST! two inches overnight with 8" total. 1st chair again, blah, blah.
i think i had a "COUNTRY CLUB" ski experience that admin mentioned to me once about alta when the resort opens and the road is closed.
the only differences were that the road wasn't closed, schools were in session thank god, it ain't alta, and i mean this is burke man! at the busiest time of day i counted 19 cars in the whole parking lot and 1 was mine and 3 were employees, get the picture? everything skied very well and i could still see mine and my girls tracks under the chair on an open slope unbothered or scribbled on at 3:30 pm. lines were filled in that i haven't been able to ski in years, not even last year.
crappy drive home tonight, but switched work shift tomorrow for 2 pm so will hit gunstock from 9-1 with you guessed it, up to 8 more inches expected.
gonna be a great weekend for the workin folk.
