A-Basin opens Wednesday

Wow. $49.00 for one run. Supply and demand at its finest. Seems about right considering how many people will be lining up to ski this week. Clearly they can command that type of premium.

I wonder who is crazy enough to ski on a WROD in October and pay $49. 8-[

From what I heard from someone else is that many of the early season skiers at ABasin have a type of Summit County season pass which makes October skiing at A-Basin a busy affair compared to Loveland.

Yes, Patrick will wait until Loveland opens, so he can spend hundreds of $ to ski a less crowded WROD.

Maybe even hold out until they EACH have 2 open runs. :ski:

Oh, the shenanigans!

I guess the folks at Loveland remember the Keystone shenanigans from the 80's & 90's (Keystone used to open with their night lighting at something like 6am so they could claim 1st place over Loveland). You won't see me at either of them anytime soon. Huge crowds of teens amp'ed up on energy drinks and crashing into each other.. blech.

Maybe the gov't will have to intervene in this 'unseemly' marketplace disruption...

Abasin to open at 9 AM on wed.

Two days later:

Loveland to open at 8:30 AM on wed.

1 hr later:

Abasin to open at 8:30 AM on wed.

What will they think up next.

Yeah, I know a lot of crazy people with those types of season passes. We did not buy a Loveland 4-pack this year (and don't plan to) so I'll guess we'll be on the WROD at the Basin only. Actually, that chair is so slow that there are never that many people on the slopes, but the liftlines can be humongous.

What really got crazy last winter was when Keystone opened a week early and had 2 high speeds feeding a single run, Spring Dipper. Then they fenced off half of Spring Dipper near the top to make a snowboard park. The resulting half WROD was really dangerous. 8-[

I guess I'll have no problem meeting my goal of skiing less than 3 months after we skied in Chile (July 29). =D>

Did I already say "Blech" to Abasin WROD?

Not even a weekend day...

DUMB!!! That's how many times the number of people that will be there on a nice weekday of full operation next April/May?

It's all about the stoke. I applaud everyone out there kicking off the 2008-9 ski season and having a good time just being back on the snow and maybe having a beer or two on the deck afterwards. Ya only live once. (so far as we know).

You guys are funny. At the end of the season you cant let anyone close and now that someone has opened your on their case too. Early season is all about the stoke so more power to them no matter how limited the opening..........

Since most of us find the October/November skiing to be of much lower quality than April/May, we would like to encourage more demand for the latter. The disparate demand by the skiing public is surely the reason that many areas spend big $$$ on snowmaking to open early yet close the doors with full coverage of natural snow.
