Airplane Gully & East Snowfields 6/4-5/2005

Drove the Auto Road both days, Saturday and Sunday, to access Airplane Gully and East Snowfields.

About 1100 vertical feet was still skiable, almost to Spaulding Lake. Quite a nice run, for June! First set of pictures here are from Sunday, which was a little sunnier, probably better of the two days for photography, though great snow both days.

About how much vertical is available on the east snowfields now?
Any guesses on how long into the summer that'll be skiable?

not sure how much is left, Appskiah. check this link for realtime webcam shots, which will show you what's left:
Mt Washington Observatory ravine webcam from Wildcat summit

This morning the summit is obscurred by clouds, but usually the East Snowfields go quick.

SkiRat drove up Tuesday and skied Airplane Gully. He reported that 18" of snow had melted since last Saturday, and thought it might be unskiable by this weekend. Maybe Rob will give us a report today or tomorrow (may have to check that "other" website, since he's a TFT addict).

I may be all done for the season, though my summer hiking may include one visit to the snow arch, with skis of course, to pay last respects to Ullr. See you on the trails!
