Once again, I went to a little ski area north of Montreal, but Mont Avila this time. 600' high, 12 trails... looks like nothing interesting. Most of skiers take tickets for Mt Saint-Sauveur and Avila, as they're linked. Actually, it's known for the giga snowpark of Mont Saint-Sauveur that is on this side of the mountain, but it's the only point that everybody knows.... but when you really know that ski area, you know that it's one of the best ski area in the laurentians for the tree sking. The space between trees is generally wide and you can ski almost everywhere on that mountain !!

Sorry for the pics brightness... I took them in late afternoon.

The ski conditions were enough good, after the 12'' of snow last weekend, so it was nice to take the extreme passes of the area and to jump off little cliffs with steep landings. The glades were pretty good, despite the snowdepth was less good than at Alta which is about 15 miles northern in a powder zone. I found once again numerous little canyons to ski with really nice untracked powder. The big snowpark was interesting, but the landings were a little bit icy, so I decided to not take the biggest big airs, as they were huge and enough dangerous in those conditions. There was a skier enough incredible... he was always doing some 720 degrees and I think he did once a 1080... and he succeded it !

It was fun to ski the very first off-piste I took in my life (photo), about 11-12 years ago.

It's just a little bump line in the woods, but it's always interesting to do it, especially as it continues farther in the woods and far later, you have choice to continue in the 6-7 foot wide line or to go in some really steep narrow pitches (photo)

So that was a great day... it's sure that it misses some vertical drop, as there is lot of groomed trails in which you're at the bottom in few seconds, but the conditions were nice and I really got some fun <IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/clipart/happy.gif" ALT="
