I defy anyone to beat the nutso conditions the Catskills have had to endure this season.

On the ride up, it was raining steadily the entire way until we got within five miles of Belleayre, where it turned to snow. Apparently, Belleayre had four inches of new snow Saturday morning, and overnight, another two inches fell, which were sitting on top of a base that I'd describe as "carvable ice." Sounds appetizing, huh?

Actually, it wasn't bad at all. My warmup runs down an untracked Yahoo were really soft, and when I met with Jason and his two daughters at 9:30, we found that, as has been the deal all winter long, the upper pitches were mostly hardscrabble, but the lower 2/3 of every trail was in nice shape for high-speed carving. The woods and ungroomed were strictly at-your-own-risk... unfortunately, it's been that kind of season.

Nice day with the jasoncapecod family, and apologies to hard-charging daughter Kayla, who was none too happy with my selection of trails.

Here's a shout-out for the guy at the Tomahawk Midstation -- he's been there forever, it seems -- who's always playing classical music and operas and waves at every single chair the entire day. Everyone digs him.

The guy is a classic. Don't see too many lifties that are older. At least I haven't.

And uh, I'll bite....what's the significance of the new avatar?

James another very pleasant day skiing..
Once again i can't thank you enough being the Temco's personal photographer.

I give you kudos for sticking out the day with us. Most guys don't want to spend their day skiing with a father and his 2 young daughters.

Kayla sure is a different bird compared to easy going Zoe.

I love the juxtaposition in the second Jason pic with his smooth turn and the girl in the background.

I was going to hit Bell Sunday...but couldn't. Ended up at Hunter Monday. From 9 to 11:30 it was pure bulletproofium, then corned up Ok. Lower K-27 and upper xover where awesesome...pure corn.
Of course the west side was closed.................deathslide ice.
Bell seems to get the goods as others suffer.

I used to be a Hunta reg. Belleayre is just a nicer mellower place. And they let you play in the woods..
Thats why I ski there on weekdays, Monday usualy. Bell has been getting much more crowded, and just wait until they ever build the new "resort"...

Midwinter weekends are no longer the ghost town they used to be (they definitely need bigger lodges), but the key is to avoid the HSQ from 11-2 . Last Sunday, there were a fair amount of people there, but the upper mountain lifts were always ski-on. Can't beat that.
