Bolton Valley VT, 11/15

I was gonna' go to MRG, but on the way up on I-89 on Saturday Morning, I noticed clear skies over the Mad River Valley and stormy clouds to the north. I got off the Moretown exit and a few flakes flew .... "go to Bolton" ran through my mind as they got the most snow. Change plans.
I slowly assembled and Jonathon Shefftz showed up, then Dave Guertin (2 ski days in a row and 2 days on AT gear ..... I think this guy is hooked) followed by JimB and then Ben Bloom with Dan The Man. Unreal how we all got together ..... must be the position of the planets. Depth of new snow was more like it. Jonathon and I did an appetizer, finding nice windblown snow. After that, we all toured up to the mighty summit of the Wilderness lift (I think ... I dunno' Bolton very well). We all straighlined the low angle Turnpike to the base. Afterwards, we made our way to Timberline, sans Jonathon. Up to the top of Twice As Nice we went and descended it. I found the snow to be a bit grabby and tricky, but the others did well in it.
Everyone decided to leave then, but I wanted more. Up Timberline I went and became disinterested, so I traversed through the woods to the base of the headwall of the trail Just In Woods descended the other day. Of course, since I didn't have an audience, I made my best turns of the day in the best untracked I found.
Next, I felt I had to get back to the upper lodge where my truck was parked, so I ascended via Timberline-Brandywine (I didn't exactly know what I was doing), traversed left to some other trail which I figgered would not bring me back to my intended destination. Frustrated and a bit lost, I traversed through some more woods and wound up on Sure Shot in some real estate development. This made me puke ... don't get me wrong, ya' gotta' have housing somewhere, but geez when I go skiing, I wanna' go in the mountains, not in Levittown. So, I skinned up to the top of Sure Shot, just a stone's throw from the top of some lift.
I headed down Villager (keep in mind, I am referencing the map on the website, right now) and found awesome snow ..... and then Water Bar Hell. It woulda' been darn near epic, except that there were water bars seemingly every 50 feet and they were deep and open. Ultimately, Villager brought me back to my truck.

Wow, it was really a first Skivt day this season, as what I can see !

I hope that we'll get a lot of this kind of storm, in the coming months
