It's a shame to close with good snow cover top to bottom. It would have been easier to take a week and a half ago, when bare spots covered the mountain. After losing so much of the base to two weeks of rain and unseasonably warm weather, winter came back for an encore since last Sunday.

Monday saw 7"-8" of new snow, and great powder conditions worthy of a sick day. [cell call overheard on the Tram Monday morning: "Hi, Gloria. You didn't forget I was taking a personal day today, did you?"]

A couple more dustings during the week were topped off by an additional 4"-5" or more Saturday morning, and light snow fell right through Sunday morning. I don't know the official snowfall numbers, but you can see the trails are white again!

The Taft Race Course was nicely bumped up over the saddle to Mittersill. North Slope was too thin, a bad choice. Barons Run was thin, but pretty good! I heard Tuckerbrook was skied top to bottom today; not bad for April 6.

On the front five, Avalanche, Paulies and Zoomer were in great shape, with plenty of powder in the bumps early.

Unfortunately the upper mountain had been windscoured, leaving little of the new snow from the past 48 hours on trail. There was a thin line drifted in on skiers left of Vista Way that was nice. Taft Slalom had good cover except at the ledges. The pockets of powder on Profile that looked good from the chair turned out to be hard wind slab - edgeable, but not worth jumping rope. A disappointing change from first tracks under the Profile liftline yesterday morning, when it was 6"-10" of powder. Upper Cannon was good, and there were a few nice powder turns to be had in the trees. Skylight sucked, as it was almost all stripped down to the old icy surface. Upper to Middle Hardscrabble were in great shape.

Cannon should be good to ski top-to-bottom for a week or two, for those willing to hike or skin up. With the extra hour of daylight, I hope to get up there for a run or two after work.
