Ham, <BR> I build the Park and Pipe at Cannon. Pipe is 12', Hits range from 10' beginner tables to monster 40'+ stepdowns, Rails will be increased this year. Problem is, I don't expect enough snowmaking support from the bigwigs to have much open by Xmas. Maybe a few hits and a rail or two. <BR> As for Mittersill...These guys are being mighty Coy...It's not like Mittersill is much of a secret. If there's enough snow, it'll look like an ant farm heading over there. Now if you start asking about some of the more "creative" lines on the hill...Thin smiles and tight lips is about all you'll get. I work there and I still haven't figured out very many. <BR> <BR>Cancat

lol (don't wanna be killed) <BR> <BR>Good to see a snowboarder on the board... we may miss their perspective ! <BR> <BR>Keep on posting a little bit here and try to convince a couple of guys here to ski with you and show you few spots !cancat: i'm trying to help design the terrain park at Big Sky. they are very limited with thier resources. there's only one guy/groomer who builds and designs the park. the snowboard school 'maintains' the park. in the past it's only been one or two jumps, a 10' wall halfpipe(a joke), and a few rails. <BR>this is what i've proposed to them: (minimum park features)(this is alot for Big Sky) 3 jumps in a line to create the flow that's needed in a terrain park, jumps will be 60'+ apart from each other, no pipe(waste of time), one smaller jump(25') to the side(for gapers), and rails placed out of the way of the jumps so nobody runs into each other, and placed in a line(flow). the 3 jumps will be 30', 35', and 40' respectively. now this is what i gave to them as spec's for landings: as long as two cat lengths, and as wide as two cat widths. landings should be slightly steeper than the jumps themselves. <BR> <BR>are there certain specs you use(or go by) to design the jumps at cannon? how do my specs sound? i'm new to actually taking a part in designing a park, but i believe i know what i'm talking about. i've been riding for 15+ yrs and grew up riding loon and wv parks. i also rode brecks park last yr and those are mainly the designs i'm getting my specs from as well as the layout. <BR>i'll be plenty happy with a couple of nicely groomed 30'-40'ers at cannon during xmas time. do what u got ta do. <BR> <BR>frankenstein: i won't be 'out of control' so don't worry. it only looks that way, so when people see me coming they know enough to move(or stay still). i feel very comfortable crusing crowded slopes at high speeds, but i don't make a habit of it. i will be careful, as i always am. <BR> <BR>i'm also surpised you want a 'snowboarder' to keep posting here. most of the people around here still think of snowboarders as useless obnoxious(sp?) punks who scrape all the snow off the hill and wear baggy clothes and smoke dope. narrow minded people i tell ya. and i won't have to convince anyone to ride with me. it's a matter of who can keep up with me.....that's who i'm willing to ride with. oops, i'm talkin that east coast trash again.......but it's true. i'll ride with whoever.

I like to fly a bit (with my skis, though), during april, but I wouldn't do that too much often, cause it's too dangerous IMO. It depends of the jumps. During late april/early may 2002, I was really going crazy on the big air of St-Sauveur, cause it was perfect, but in general, I find the jumps are too much complicated to jump perfectly and too much crowded to learn how to jump them ! <BR> <BR>Snowboarders : the definition of *bad snowboarders* you said may have been true in the early years, but now, I think it's mostly the beginner boarders who can "scrape the snow", cause they always *skid* (is it the right word ?). No sterotypes here. That said, I don't care if you ride or ski, if I catch <I>anyone</I> side-slipping trails at Mittersill, you'll get an earful. Anyone skiing or riding 15 years probably knows how to get down a steep ungroomed trail without scraping down it on one edge. I'm hoping for a 400" season at Mt. Washington, but Cannon gets less, and Mittersill has no snowmaking. Nothing (almost) pisses me off more than coming down Mittersill and finding my favorite run has been side-slipped by someone who never should have left the groomed blue-square runs at Cannon. <BR> <BR>Like Cancat said, just follow the ant-tracks. Beware that if you don't stay right, some hiking may be involved to return to Cannon (not that hiking is a bad thing, but some of those left turns are a 3+ mile hike back via Wells Road). <BR> <BR>Porter, I'd always suggest you follow the guy on the Tram who's <I>not</I> talking... <BR> <BR>But seriously, email me if you want to get together at Cannon in December. I want to know more about the stuff "off North Peak", which I discovered last season on a rare day at Loon (but DON'T POST IT ON THE INTERNET!). <BR> <BR>Cancat, I thought I heard a rumor the park, or the pipe, was going to get moved again. so that's ok. is 3 miles the longest i'll have to hike back if i take an inviting left? i might do that once or twice. <BR> <BR>i'll be the one not talking on the tram too. i never talk to anyone on lifts unless i absolutely have to. my riding budies used to get a kick out of that. when we got to the top, they'd say, 'so, did you say ANYTHING to that guy on the lift w/ you'? me: 'nope'. ha ha. so i know exactly the type you're talking 'bout. <BR>N. peak goods is a little bit of a trek. hell for some people. it's really only a short shot too. maybe 200'-300'vert. maybe not even that much. shhhhhhh.......ut up! ok. i won't post anything else about it. <BR>welp, i'm off to scope out some riding for next w/end w/ my dog. got to check if we'll need snowshoes. 5 miles up, 5 miles out. time to sack up for tha wintah.
