Cannon Mt., NH - 3/1/2005

We had an incredible day Tuesday at Cannon.

First tracks yesterday down Mittersill on Liftline to T-Bar, then first tracks twice in the glades.

I ran into Nat Putnam apres ski, and had a good chat about NBS. Nat said he measured 12" at end of day; my last run skiers left of Banshee was 18"-24". We found knee-deep snow everywhere in the woods, though it was 6" to 12+" on the trails, before skier traffic piled it up. It snowed all day, though the sun almost broke through mid-day. It was coming down hard by late afternoon, and we were getting covered on the chairs, so we went back to riding the Tram. It snowed all night, and is still snowing lightly this morning - too bad I've got to work today!.

Big soft bumps were everywhere (with scratchy base in between, of course). Had some great runs down Avalanche and Paulies just pointing the skis downhill. The mountain trails were scraped pretty bare on Monday afternoon, and even the popular glades like Kinsman were all hardpack scraped down to stumps, roots and rocks before this powder fell.

Ski patrol hauled a guy with a broken femur off lower Tuckerbrook at the end of the day, sounded like they might make it out before it was pitch black last night. FSC/Holderness took 2 bus-loads of kids down Tuckerbrook yesterday.

It probably snowed enough overnight to fill in yesterday's tracks, and I expect we'll hear great reports from today. This morning's official report of 18" in last 24hr is on the mark. They're going for 100%, and may officially open Tramline and Sprocket (Lakeview glade) today.
