great to meet and ski with you scott! looking forward to making turns with you again sometime soon. now get offline and get to that anniversary celebrating already, man! :lol:
cannon got rammed by this recent storm and with the upper mountain lifts not operating yesterday, today was just as good as a day after the storm powder day. cannon is now 100% open except for profile and bypass which took a huge hit from the wind and look about as ugly as i have seen them. vista was pretty ugly too except skiers left which was nice featuring some wind slab jumps with extra soft landings that porter posted in another thread. fun!
opened the morning with some hot groomer action mid cannon to extension to rocket style. wowwie were the groomers in great shape! i'm not one to rave about groomers, but the snow was excellent under foot. front face trails were quite variable with diced up choppy wind slabbed powder. slabbish at times, bumpy at others, and occasional powder to keep it interesting. essentially, i could ski any of the three conditions but the variablity wasn't choice within the same run. untracked pow on banshee and a tram to the summit please!
five times over the saddle, five times found untracked pow pow pow! it was grabby and heavy pow, but it was friggin boot deep and i'll take it however it comes! cover and base are simply fantastic. if we keep up this weather pattern with more snow in the next two weeks, i'll be skinning here for turns long into april the way this season is going. wowzers. traffic was light considering it was fresh after a storm. two spread eagles were made to boot, i love it!
scott told me that kinsman glade was not so fun in the AM with wind slabbed snow; however, afternoon it was fantastic! wow! still thin cover on the steepest parts with obvious signs that more trail work needs to be done during the summer. hey, here's a hint for you folks out there.... if your girl friend can't turn in the woods, don't bring her down kinsman glade! you're relationship might actually last!
tramline was fantastic! here's another hint: if you can't make tight turns within a ski legnth wide chute, you don't belong on this trail! you know who you are, you side scrappers! untracked boot deep fresh down old tram line, i couldn't stop screaming for joy, it was so good!
fun story: twice on mitt i literally found myself chocking on powder! it was awesome! ran afoul in the powder and fell down on my back, head facing down the hill and powder got all stuffed down into my mouth. i thought it was funny till i realized i couldn't breathe! i exhaled hard, coughed up some snow, and turned myself right side up as to put gravity on my side. then i just laid there laughing for like 5 minutes!! as funny as it was, it certainly puts into perspective what an avalanche could be like.

It doesn't look like there are any tracks under the Tram. It can't be an epic year, if that is true. This storm has gone through it's rain, wet snow, large flakes, now normal snow stages here. Maine will get socked with at least 18" from what I have gleaned. If you're into going the distance, I'ld head for Saddleback or the Loaf this spring.
