Do you all move lodging bases when skiing Fernie and Castle? Or do you pick one side (Fernie, Castle/Pincher Creek) and commute over the pass?
Depends on the trip.

When Castle has the goods, you’ll gladly choose to drive over the pass a 2nd or 3rd time no matter where you are staying. Though not a lot of great food options in Pincher Creek that I've found thus far.

Skiing is the priority. Golden, BC, used to be a food desert with dive bars, but that has changed.

Often, when switching ski resorts in Europe, it's me and the prepared foods at the Coop Grocery store. I scheduled too many 3-hour evening drives last winter.

More often than not, yes. For many years I did stay onsite at Castle. That stopped working since I resumed going to Island Lake in 2022. The days just before are a high demand weekend so I stay in Pincher Creek, though often for just one night. We did a lot of driving back and forth in the year with Tseeb 2018. This was due to weather. You do not want to ski Castle if the top red chair is closed. Fernie has a lot of great tree skiing on stormy days. That extra driving was well worth it in 2018 because we got both a deep windsift day at Castle and continuously snowing powder day at Fernie.
