Eastern closing thread - 2009-10

Tony ,
Correct, MSS stockpiles snow on hill 70 ,their main run in front of their day lodge. They pile it up to a depth of almost 20' on the bottom section , less on top . Very bad snow year in the Laurentians , if they claim they received 67 inches this would be a stretch as more accurate figure would be about 40 to 50 at the most with never more than 24" on the ground at any given time ( My measurements ) . The snow depths were so bad this year that we were prevented from skiing our back country trails . Just can't ski steep forested hill sides on 2 feet of snow . The orange ribbons are on the trees waiting for next year. 8-[

Mont St-Sauveur - May 9 (weather permitting)

Mont St-Sauveur is closed today, it's +4c and raining. To be confirm for tomorrow. Not about the snow, but the forecast.

Here is what MSS is saying.

CLOSED SATURDAY MAY 8 - TO BE CONFIRMED FOR SUNDAU THE 9

It is our pleasure today to greet the first ever Division Laurentienne de Ski Summer Camp on our slopes. Although the area remains closed to the public, Mont Saint-Sauveur is very proud to support this great initiative to keep our future athletes tuned up and ready to go for the next ski season.
The camp is planned to be held until Sunday and into next week, ending the 16th of May.

As for public operations, Mont Saint-Sauveur is planning to open for this upcoming week end, if weather permits.

Have a nice week !

End of the season schedule
Saturday May 8 - CLOSED
Sunday May 9 - TO BE CONFIRMED & AFTER CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

Here is the EC Forecast for tomorrow:

Today
Rain. Wind east 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this afternoon. High plus 5.

Tonight
Periods of rain changing to periods of light snow near midnight. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 overnight. Low minus 1.

Sunday
Periods of light snow ending in the morning then cloudy. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light in the evening. High plus 3.

Even some calls for some accumulations in parts of southern Quebec including Montreal. They are calling for 2-4cm in St-Jovite (Tremblant) and 20cm in Mont-Laurier.

-3c and snow in the forecast is not good in attracting skiers in May.

Mont St-Sauveur just pulled the plug on their and the East liftserved season.

Last to close: MSS, Jay and Loaf on May2nd.
First to open: SR on October 14th, MSS on Oct 18th.

Geoff, if you pursue this take a bunch of pictures May 1&2 and compare to those on closing weekends some of those other years Patrick mentioned. I do see a difference if they were advertising "early May," particularly for spring passes. In Powdr Corp's first year at Killington they said at the beginning of the season that April 20 would be the end.

Found where this quote was posted. You've seen some post from previous seasons, now here are some from this season. Last weekend plus Superstar skiing in MAY without lifts. I'll let Geoff make the call, but judging by the amount of snow a few weeks after closing is that, by past standards, Kmart would have been open on May 1-2 weekend.
