Hey Guys

I just booked a trip out to the Golden area in late February and plan on hitting Kicking Horse and Revelstoke. Just wondering if anyone is local to those areas?

I have a few questions about the area- if noone is local has anyone been to either and do you have comments?

Thanks

I've been to KHMR and stayed in Golden. KHMR rocks and I bet Revelstoke does too.

Revelstoke wasn't a resort yet, just a place to go cat skiing. I think this will be it's 2nd year of operation.

BC is one of my favorit places to ski. Hope to go back some day.

Good pics from ChrisC and lots of analysis of Kicking Horse strong and weak points here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3215

I will be at Revelstoke Feb. 4-6 this year. I was there when it was just snowcat and not that impressed relative to other BC snowcat places. But I never saw the north side of the mountain. One of the new lifts built for the coming season provides better access to that side, and skiable acreage jumps from 1,500 last year to 3,000 this year. My guess is that terrain will still be not quite as good as Kicking Horse, but Revelstoke's top 2,000 vertical gets 400+ inches a year vs. 275 at KH.

I will be flying to Kelowna, which is a better gateway than Calgary if these are the resorts you want to concentrate on.

Not a local but a Denver home-boy who loves BC. Golden is a great ski town, tons of great backcountry access if you can hook up with some locals who know there way around. A great town worth spending some time in. As for Revelstoke, have not skied the new resort but have heli'd there quite a bit and skied above the resort which was the cat operation tenure previously. Revelstoke is kind of a funny town currently in transition. Golden has a lot more soul.

You are in a great snow belt in that area; my experience being that the higher the elevation the more snow and better quality... Rogers Pass, the area between the two towns gets incredible amounts of great quality snow.

That would be a 39-year average of 486 inches at 6,150 feet on Mt. Fidelity, which is in Canada's Glacier National Park overlooking Rogers Pass.
