There's some great mountaineering history in the Whites. As you know, most of the ealry American alpinists came out of the NE and cut their teeth in the White Mountains and the GUNKS (Dodge, Briggs, Washburn, etc.) Not to give up too much personal information, but my father-in-law was president of the Harvard Mountaineering Club in the early 60's and as a result I have heard and learned much about the climbing exploits of the members of that club (including the Harvard Route on Wickersham Wall) which is truely a great story worthy of a Hollywood script. All these guys are incredible American legends. =D>
