Plans to ski saturday and sunday were thwarted by excessive partying the previous nights in honor of a bride and bridegroom to be friday and a great band at the Riverwood saturday night.

We heard tales of glare ice and massive crowds, so we relaxed and did a little snowshoeing during the daytime hours on the weekend.

Today, we woke early and got out on the mountain. A fresh inch of snow made surfaces really nice in addition to a great recovery by the snowmaking and grooming crew. The trails were in excellent shape. We didn't ski a bad trail all day. Lies was wicked fast. Topridge was by far the best due to a lot of snowmaking and great snowmaking temps. It was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining keeping our spirits warm. Off-piste skiing was still not in great shape, so we stuck to the snowmaking areas and did a lot of laps on Topridge and Straightbrook.

Was up there the 15th and 16th, and indeed the the glare ice, by days end, was treacherous. Each morning, the grooming and snowmaking made for a few good runs, but much of the mountain, both up and down, has a solid base of pure ice.

Meant to go to see the band. Couldn't motivate group after the full day of ice-skating on snowboards, but was probably the better plan on your part.

We skied Gore Sunday and it was not crowded. No lines all day. Ice is a relative thing and it was, overall, less icy than we expected. Although there were some glaring spots late in the day.

My embarrassed 13-year old nephew is learning to snowboard and became the victim of an overzealous ski patrol, getting a toboggan ride down the mountain for what amounted to a left-butt-cheek bruise. This basically ended our day around 2:30, but we started early and were getting tired anyway.

Moral of the story. If you fall and a ski patrol asks if you're ok. spring to your feet and say , "Why yes thank you." Unless, that is, you're not.
