Greek Peak 1/14/04

Fabulouse evening of skiing under the lights at Greek Peak weds night. Thinking I would just ski for an hour or 2 due to the cold, I ended up skiing until last chair at 9pm. That's 4 hours of telemark skiing on fresh snow and soft bumps! Conditions were excellent and the steady snow
kept a smooth and soft powdery surface refreshing every run. There was barely a breeze. Temperature a balmy -3 at the peak.

There were maybe a dozen or so other people skiing besides me and my 2 pinhead cohorts. Great night out.

I skiied last night at Mont Cascades, QC (30 minutes from Ottawa). Conditions great. Similar to what Sharon had. Like I said last night, unfortunately ski boots are not conceived in Europe.

I would hope to ski more, but the feet couldn't stand it.

Ottawa at 8AM: -30c. Had a nice 3km walk into work.

OOPS!!! I meant "unfortunately ski boots ARE conceived in Europe" (ie. not for the extreme cold of Canadians and New England winters).

Patrick:

I just bought some "Boot Gloves" ($30 US), and everyone raves about their ability to keep your feet warm (and dry).

I'll let you know how they work this weekend during my stay in the Eastern Townships.

I have never been sking in anywhere near the temps you are dealing with these past 2 weeks, but I will second the endorsement of the Boot Glove. My son is a true SoCal native, wears at least one more layer of clothing than most people if it's below freezing, and often complains of cold feet. So I bought him a Boot Glove a few years ago and he says it helps a lot.

My husband loves the boot glove, and he wears them in addition to the Hotronics. He's skinny and always cold, so this helps keep him out on the slopes when its cold.

I don't have that problem, but when it's this cold, I put the activated charcoal "Toe Heater" pads in my boots and the "hand warmers" in my mittens. If it wasn't for those I would not have skied as long as I did that night.

Mt brother got me a $200 ASC gift card for Christmas, so I used it at the Sugarloaf ski shop and had hotronics electric footbed warmers installed for $189.00. This kept my chronically cold feet cozy at Mt Orford at -20F. I would recommend this product for extreme cold comfort.
They can be installed in most ski boots in under 1 hour.
