Greek Peak 12/19/03

I just couldn't stand sitting at my desk at work friday afternoon, so I packed it up and headed out the Greek Peak.

They definitely got 10" the other day. They pened terrain friday at 3pm that hadn't been skied. We were the first ones on it. Gladed trails we tracked up good. Knee deep powder, so light and fluffy. Thank you Lake Ontario! We poached some steeper closed trails that had nice fluffy deep snow on them. No patrol in sight, so we did it over and over again until there was no untracked snow left. We did some major harvesting of freshies until dark when they shut the lifts at 5pm.

Unfortunatley Greek Peak massacred some of the trails by grooming the natural snow down to the dirt. The cats churned up a lot of dirt and rock.
It was a mess. They would have been better off leaving it natural, or at least leaving some of it natural. All that beautiful powder, wasted. At
least there was still plenty in the woods and closed trails.

We skied until it was dark. The lifts closed at 5pm, and they even kept chair 5 open until 5 and there are no lights on that side of the mountain.

Glad I was able to get out early and enjoy what's left of the last storm.

When we got home after ravaging Greek Peak, 7 friends showed up with skinny skis and we embarked on a 3 hour tour of our backyard backcountry. Fun night, but all that fresh air and exercise really took a toll. Slept 10 hours!!!
