Trying to figure out the Troy tie-in here
No direct tie-in... just one of Admin's Greatest Hits. When I bumped the Bend, OR thread, I saw how you and Rob were trying to outdo the other with stock photos of soul-killing environments: cookie-cutter suburbia in Utah and post-industrial decrepitude in the northeast. That pic of Troy -- truly a low blow -- cracked me up.

Shout out to ALL Troy peeps!

That is a tough luck photo. Last time I was in Troy the place I grew up in had been leveled.

I wonder if Thornie's is still there?

Spent four years of pure hell there 1984-1988. My old fraternity house has been leveled, too. Don't remember any place called Thornies, though.

So, you were a Troylet?

Oh yea. 1961 - 1968. My folks were in grad school at RPI. We lived in graduate student housing across from the RPI field house.

Thornie's was a restaurant with a fountain at (what I think was) a main intersection downtown. We never went in as we didn't have two nickels, but we'd press our noses up against the dark tinted glass. I'm sure it was probably a dump, but what did I know.

I'm probably alive today, because my grandfather was scared for our lives going to PS 18 and he coughed it up for us to go to Catholic school.

Best thing about RPI were those BRUTAL hockey games they played in whatever league that was (ECAC?). Those nerds could really kick some a$$.

[-X James [-X ... shame for turning Admin's Bday thread in strolling down memory alley.

Although I may have more to add after skiing tonight. :-D

Mom proved me wrong. We did go to Thornie's.

In our Sunday best May 1966.

Sure was! (Ummmm...we're still talking about skiing, right? 8-[ )
This made me laugh...so did James' post.

Happy Birthday again Admin.

I'll leave it to Tony quote Warren Miller's appropriate bday/age/skiing line.

I can see that you're feet aren't aligned. Sign that you would become a telemarkerteer later in life.

No kidding, I was at Vorlage yesterday skiing and my youngest wanted to take the old t-bar. New respect for my mom who didn't have a choice to ride t-bars with me. Oh yeah, there is also the double chair that used to be at Tremblant (which I have rider so many time back in the pre-pre-Intrawest days). I'll try to write TR one of these days.

Oh sorry I missed this one. Thanks for you enthusiasm about skiing and service to the ski community. I just pushed you and Crocker on a questionare from Heavenly Valley, CA. Their wanting to know in detail where I get information about resorts. I mentioned this site and how many questions get answered here. A virtual think tank for skiers about any subject. I like the freedom of speech here and breadth of subject matter.

Happy Birthday to You, Belated Birthday to You. I think you can take Warren Miller's Place one day with our own style. I read his humor was to cover up what he thought was bad photography initially. It was his own account of his humor development. Whew, how did your style develop? I don't know, but, happy belated birthday dude! Utah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ski on your B-Day! :-D O:)

Ahh kinda late Guy..but Happy Geburtstag anyway...BUT,
What the heck is this Troy stuff Harvey44? I grew up out in Spiegletown(63'-72')..~10mi north on #40 from Lansingburgh. Well, existed Sept-June... Upper NYS = a much nicer place than my experiences when growing up with parents..LOL, but I'd take North River anyday...
