Healthcare provider covers cost of lift tickets

Good for the people who can take advantage of this, but I can't figure out the financial rationale for the healthcare company. When all was said and done, my broken femur five years ago ended up costing my insurer somewhere north of $25K.

I jokingly mentioned this to one of our HR people and she wasn't very suprised and said that our company has used it's 'Wellness' reimbursement for things such as tennis lessons or dancing classes. Our Wellness reimbursement is usually intended to defray the cost of a health club membership, thus making employees healthier and reducing overall healthcare costs. She said if you could make an argument that you use skiing as a source of fitness the approvers might let you use it for lift tickets or passes. So it might not be that far fetched. I already use my full wellness amount for a Y membership, so I'm not going to test the waters here.
