Honeycomb Canyon at Solitude terrain

We have season passes at Alta but will be hosting relatives which include a boarder 3-20 through 3-23. Will be going to Solitude & hope to spend some time in Honeycomb Canyon, not too familiar with that area.Would appreciate any advice in exploring the terrain there.

yo!
solitude's a great alternative in your area with a boarder on board. honeycomb canyon is an expansive place with enough options to ski fresh lines well into and after a storm day. one downer imo is that you will end up doing quite a bit of traversing on the far wall for shots that aren't really very long unless you ski one shot and then hit another lower traverse to another shot and so on. the fantasy ridge walk is neat but, is a slog just to drop a probably hacked up chute to get down to the traverse and below. the summit ridge traverse and evergreen hike are more worth the walk for the terrain reached than most in honeycomb and will be easier for the boarder. so much easy access good terrain at that mountain. watch out for flying hippies if a storm keeps lcc closed though.

I agree with Icelantic that the primary Honeycomb traverse would be a slog on a board. For a snowboarder I'd more recommend Black Forest via either the Summit gate or the gate atop Powderhorn.

Thanks for the great advice and for pointing out the traverse issue with a boarder along. That's what I was looking for.
Have really enjoyed the pictures and videos of Alta while we're in Michigan between trips to SLC. Have 39 days in so far at Alta, looking forward to getting back on the 19th for last trip of the season and hopefully a total of 55. What an awesome year for Utah snow!

Yep, it's been a wondeful year! Feel free to give us a shout the next time you're here over a weekend.

Thanks! Been keeping up with the posts on Baldy Chutes. A dream of my husband's to get up there. Been skiing Alta for over 25 years but not been up there yet. He's hesitant about the hike & how strenuous it is. Would like him to go up with someone who knows the ropes!!

Pretty damn good summary without all the special places names.
